Why Did The North And South Contribute To The Civil War

The Civil War was caused by the economics of slavery and the political control of that system, specifically being states’ rights on the federal powers of the government, the territorial expansion of the united states that led to the division of the two sides, and the election of President Abraham Lincoln which was the final event that sent the nation to war.

The industrial advancement of the Northern states and the farming culture of the Southern states was one of the most significant causes to the Civil War. As shown in Document A of our Document Based Questions packet, the railroad systems of the North allowed early advancements in manufacturing

Many causes led to the Civil War. This all happened around the mid 1800s. It was a conflict between the Northern and Southern states. Both sides had their own view on slavery, and their separate views caused contentions between the two. Both had different views on whether to expand or stop slavery growth to the West, or have slavery at all.

The Civil War was caused by many several pressures, principles, and prejudices, fueled by sectional differences, and was finally set into motion by a most unlikely set of political events. From economic differences to political differences all the way up to cultural differences, the North and the South opposed each other. These tensions were further increased after the western expansion of the United States. By the early 1850’s a civil war was known to be likely coming soon.

The causes of the Civil War were complex and have been controversial since the country began. Some causes include; states’ rights, economics, and slavery. The most recognizable and popular cause is slavery. The freeing of the slaves was an important moral issue at the time and one of the greatest causes of the civil war. "It was only by carefully avoiding the moral issue involved in slavery that Northerners and Southerners could meet on any common ground." (Goldston, 79). The time came in which our great country would finally address the moral issue of slavery. Although there are many different causes to the American Civil War, the main cause was slavery because other causes are rooted in the issue of slavery.

One of the key factor contributing to the Civil War was States Rights. This refers to the struggle between federal government and individual states over political power. One side argued for greater state’s rights and those arguing felt that the Federal Government needed to have more control over states. The states felt they should have the right to decide if they were willing to accept certain federal acts. Meaning that states had the right to rule federal acts unconstitutional. The federal government denied states this right. When nullification would not work and states felts that they were no longer respected, they moved towards secession from the Union. The southern people were viewed as democratic and depended slaves for the plantations, they were devoted to agriculture and shipped cotton up north and favored low tariffs.

There are causes to why the north and south fought. One of them were state rights. Another about slavery and why or why not it should be allowed. The war started when the north was attacked at Fort Sumter. It was a result in a south victory. There will be a lot more battles to be fought. There were 620,000 deaths in the north and south side and most were from people to who did not deserve to die. States rights are basically the rights of a state to choose whether they choose to grow or choose not to grow certain crops. It was up to them as the south claimed that the north was trying to take away state rights. Though the north was likely not to do that at all, it still was possible. The war was also induced by slavery and none of the slaves

One cause leading up to the Civil War was the Missouri Compromise. The Missouri Compromise was one of the first arguments that the North and South had. Henry Clay proposed this in attempt to settle any disputes between the two. The Missouri Compromise admitted Maine as a free state, and Missouri as a slave state. This was wonderful, other than the fact that Missouri was all but completely above the 36’30 line. The 36’30 basically divided the country into two sides and gave everyone the idea that there were two sides to the argument. This is what began the ever growing tension and essentially the start of the Civil War.

Why was the civil war caused? The northern and the southern sections of the United States were developed among different lines. The south was predominantly arraign and the north was more industrialized. With that being said issues came about with taxes, tariffs, and internal improvements, this also included states’ rights going against federal rights. The civil war was between the northern and the southern states. The northern states didn’t to much have slaves, but the south had slaves and wanted more. They began a war over the slaves in their colonies.

The Civil War was caused by many reasons. The factors that were most responsible in causing the Civil War were the different views of the Constitution among the North and South, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, and the arrival of Lincoln as president. They caused immense destruction throughout the nation. If these factors were prevented, the United States could have been preserved and civil war could have never occurred.

Generally, it is thought to be the South’s fault for causing the Civil War. Contrary to popular belief, the Civil War was mainly provoked by the North; through using the federal government to overtake the South, removing slavery which would destroy Southern economy, and creating the moral issue of slavery. The North was the primary reason for the start of a war that ripped our country apart.

A complex and complicated nature of the causes of the Civil War was in the center of the nations development. The Civil War started because of the differences between the free and slave states. One of the reasons that led the Union to the Civil war was the secession of the Southern States. Some of the issues included state rights, disagreement over tariffs, slavery which was legal in the South, but not in North, abolitionists and anti-abolitionists, economic, cultural and political differences between North and South.

Economic Differences and Political differences are two of the things that were a cause of the Civil War. re many different causes of the Civil War, but the ones that had the biggest impact was Slavery, other political events/

The economic and social differences between the north and south was a proponent for the civil war. The south relied on cotton as a cash crop, and cotton was a majority of all the crops produced. Producing this large amount of cotton meant that they needed a big amount of cheap labor, which at the time was slaves. Meanwhile, in the north there was industrial growth. The north would receive cotton from the south and produce goods, such as clothing. The south had an older view of thinking since they were still living agriculturally, and the north was advancing, because they were living in a city. The south also had a different view of social classes. The south separated people having those richer and smarter on top, and the poor and uneducated on the bottom. The north did not think this way, they had people with different cultures and apart of different classes working together (Kelly).
