The Articles of Confederation was created as a result of a young nations’ distrust for a powerful centralized government based on their experience with Great Britain, it was their first attempt at organized government in America. The states individually were given too much power, while the central power of government was very limited. Somewhat the founding fathers hoped to have the states working together as a nation for a common cause instead, states were working against each other. Currency was inconsistent and different from state to state, creating laws or ratifying the Articles was nearby impossible. The Solution was that congress was not allowed to mess around with slavery for a certain amount of time after the constitution was made. The 3/5's Compromise is said to have started the conflict between the North and the South. This divided the nation because the North had little slave’s due to the factories, but the South had more slaves than they did salve owners due to the plentiful of plantations. The North didn't want slaves to be counted because counting slaves would give the South an advantage to having more representative in the lower house since it is counted by population. The 3/5's Compromise called for exactly 3/5th of the slaves in a state to be counted when determining the number of the congress delegates a state would obtain. The South wanted the higher the population, the higher the population the more delegates a state would have in the House of Representatives. The North disagreed for the same reason the south agreed; they felt that Congress would give the South too much power. Many years passed and the young nation wanted to make many other western states to be a part of the union, there was an Agreement made to keep the balance of slave and free states equal. Missouri was added as a slave state and Maine added as a free state. Because of this Missouri compromise there was a boundary line to the Compromise which was the Parallel 36 30' North which separated the North from the South.
