By means of a mission statement to put Christian morals into practice, the YMCA programs construct a beneficial spirit, thoughts and body for everyone. The influence is experienced when a person makes a healthy selection, the minute a mentor motivates a juvenile and when a neighborhood comes as one for the everyday or common good. The YMCA accounts for all donations of currency and other resources as temporarily limited funding if they are given with contributor terms that limit the use of the contributed resources. When a contributor limitation expires, the resources are reclassified to unobstructed net resources and stated in the combined statement of actions as net resources free from limitations. Momentarily limited income which is given
According to Miller and Dess, mission statements are the driving motivation of an organization (1996). The mission statement of the Boys & Girls Clubs Indianapolis (BGCI) is, “Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis believes every young person deserves to live a life filled with hope and opportunity. Because we care about our young people, we provide a safe, educational and positive atmosphere where they can prosper and reach their full potential”. This mission statement does a great job of embodying what BGCI represents and hopes to provide for its members. The mission statement is not something that is unattainable; it is a very well attainable and is a very possible mission. For someone who has never part took in the BGC, it makes them very eager to want to volunteer or have their kids or family members join. Research shows that having a strong mission statement is the first step to overall keeping a firm survival in an organization or business (Miller and Dess, 1996). Theory and practice have helped prove that
Athletic Compliance Office activities are not always documented and existing documentation is not complete, as well as not consistently utilized in the same manner for all sports:
When I first heard about this assignment, I thought it would be very fun and interesting, When I had to choose an event, it was a hard decision to make on what event I should do. The YMCA event caught my eyes and I thought it was going to be exciting to be able to participate this event. The assignment is a great opportunity for the class to learn how to promote health in a community.
As an organization the YMCA is structured on three levels. Globally, people from 119 countries are positively impacted by leadership and youth programs. On the national level, 10,000 communities are served at approximately 2700 locations by a mixture of volunteer and full-time staff (YMCA Organizational Profile, 2015). On the local level, the YMCA of Greater New York is the largest of the locations in the country. It is able to accommodate the densely populated city, serving roughly half a million residents within the five boroughs across 22 branches, with over a hundred programs sites and a large scale summer camp (Cooney & Gephardt, 2014). No matter what the demand is for community service, the YMCA meets it on varying levels globally, nationally, and locally.
One great thing a person can do in life and that is to volunteer in an organization. Volunteering has many things a person can learn from that he or she may not know about. Volunteering is something that people do in spied of themselves. Volunteering, whether on a large or small scale, plays an important role in America. With the changes in the economy, cities depend on Volunteers more than ever. The Salvation Army has volunteers that give food to the homeless and a place where the homeless can lay their head. To understand better the power of volunteers, the benefits of volunteering and one example, The Salvation Army.
The organization that I have volunteered for is YMCA. Volunteering at the YMCA taught me how and why civic engagement is so important. Civic engagement is when citizens participate in helping their community to be better and make improvements for the entire community. It gives the chance to show the how we operate when we incorporate our differences and work together toward the community’s common goal. Making our communities more powerfully built through civic engagement increases how many active participations in the community we have. We have to teach future generations about how important civic engagement is. As a community we need to inform them of the benefits of participating in more civic engagement. There are so many ways that citizens
Many of our neighbors have asked the Valley of the Sun YMCA to organize a faith-based prayer event for our communities. Our local Chandler/Gilbert YMCA branch has held a Morning of Prayer for the past decade. With increasing popularity, the event has grown from 50 participants to 330.
The organization I volunteered for was Summerfield High School After prom. I have learned so much from this organization, and I was able to relate my volunteering experiences to sociological theories. Summerfield High School After prom does not have a formal mission statement, but we believe the mission of the committee is to provide a safe environment for our Junior and Senior High School Students following Prom. Summerfield High School After prom is organized my members from my community that come together to make sure students have a safe place to go to after prom. Since they do not have a formal mission statement, there is nothing to match their mission statement with. There are many aspects of this event that have to come together
I can divide this evaluation into two parts, one for the impact the overall experience has had on me and another for the Pat Jones YMCA.
The first point that is encompassed under the Volunteer Spirit is to lead by example. Upon arriving on campus, noticing the pride that every student had in leading had an astronomical impact on
Others give so much to us through volunteer community programs. In fact, a neighborhood could not live as successfully and joyfully without having a community organizations to thank veterans, support children, and care for the elderly. By volunteering at a young age, youth learn the joy
The second aspect that I learned from Dean was, the idea of relationships. It is not only important that the youth form a buddy buddy relationship but that they also form a spiritual relationship to one another. A lot of times youth groups focus on
For my volunteer experience I chose to go to YMCA which stands for Young Men’s Christian Association. Their mission is to make a healthy body, mind and spirit through their Christian principles. Their main focus in on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The reason I chose YMCA is because I try to live a healthy lifestyle and as that is their mission at YMCA it will be interesting to see what I will learn when I volunteer. Before the experience I thought I would volunteer by fundraising for a cause they support or help provide services in the gym. I also thought I might work with customers in the front desk. I was hoping to work with the children in the sports teams to help coach and teach them more about the sport.
The concept of the good life is one that comes up frequently in the PULSE program because it centers on the core beliefs of the program itself; personal and social responsibility. To me, the nature of the good life entails of knowledge, happiness, justice, and introspection. Through my exploration of the good life, I hope to clarify how I view the good life in accordance to Aristotle and Plato, but also, how I perceive the good life in general. Service is an important portion of the PULSE program, which is why the good life has to be related to it. The belief that service can lead to the good life will allow me to explore the importance of service for the good life, thus, I will be able to explore how PULSE will affect my version of the good life. By connecting the good life to my own personal life, I can clarify how it differs and how it is similar to how Aristotle and Plato defined the good life. Through this, I will be able to connect the good life to my experiences and can investigate how my experiences have influenced my version of the good life. Through my examination of Plato’s and Aristotle’s work, I hope to explain what the good life means to me, and how I hope to achieve it, in and outside of my service placement.
Volunteerism enables students to gain the moral lesson that is vital to their life and develop their future interest. According to source 2, “community service teaches us through experience - about the relationship between empathy and responsibility, about what it takes to be part of a community, in essence, about human being”. While students are helping their community, they learn the crucial moral lessons in the most direct and impressive way. Through an actual experience of volunteering, students are reminded that it is their responsibility to serve for their community because they are a part of it. Helping without any feedback allows them to realize the power of empathy, the essential value that makes the society a
