Step 1

When a certain metals or a elements are placed in the flame, the electrons of the atom get excited by absorbing the heat energy  from the flame. When the electrons return back from the excited state to lower energy level, the absorbed energy is released in the form of photon having certain wavelength and energy. This emitted photon may have wavelength in the visible range or in the UV or radiation as well. The color observed in the flame is a combination of different wavelengths.

Now, the relation between the wavelength and the energy of the emitted photons is inversely proportional. As the wavelength is higher, energy emitted will by the photon will be lower. This is given by the equation as follows.

E=h·cλ

E is the energy of the photon.

h is the Planck's constant

c is the speed of the light

λ is the wavelength of photon.
