A concrete rectangular column with dimensions A= 420mm and B= 580 mm (See figure below) is braced against side sway. The column is to be fixed on both ends for bending about the Y-axis and to be pinned on both ends for bending about the X-axis. The unsupported length is 7.7 meters. Use f'c=35 MPa. Reinforcements are along "B" only.   The column is subjected to the following service loads:   Axial Dead Load =400 kN Axial Live Load=650 kN Moment about the X-axis due to Dead Load on the top of the column = 151 kN-m Moment about the Y-axis due to Dead Load on the top of the column = 138 kN-m Moment about the X-axis due to Live Load on the top of the column = 165 kN-m Moment about the Y-axis due to Live Load on the top of the column = 140 kN-m

Question

A concrete rectangular column with dimensions A= 420mm and B= 580 mm (See figure below) is braced against side sway. The column is to be fixed on both ends for bending about the Y-axis and to be pinned on both ends for bending about the X-axis. The unsupported length is 7.7 meters. Use f'c=35 MPa. Reinforcements are along "B" only.

The column is subjected to the following service loads:

Axial Dead Load =400 kN

Axial Live Load=650 kN

Moment about the X-axis due to Dead Load on the top of the column = 151 kN-m

Moment about the Y-axis due to Dead Load on the top of the column = 138 kN-m

Moment about the X-axis due to Live Load on the top of the column = 165 kN-m

Moment about the Y-axis due to Live Load on the top of the column = 140 kN-m

Moment about the X-axis due to Dead Load on the bottom of the column = 140 kN-m

Moment about the Y-axis due to Dead Load on the bottom of the column = 131 kN-m

Moment about the X-axis due to Live Load on the bottom of the column = 162 kN-m

Moment about the Y-axis due to Live Load on the bottom of the column = 144kN-m

If the end moments results to the column having a singular curve for both axes, and the column is not subjected to any transverse loads, determine the following:

Critical load on the column for bending along the X-axis, kN

Critical load on the column for bending along the Y-axis, kN

Design Moment for bending about the X-axis, kN-m

Design Moment for bending about the Y-axis, kN-m

Eccentricity (using the design moment) of the load along the Y-axis, mm

Eccentricity (using the design moment) of the load along the X-axis,
