Although more regulations and guidelines have been put in place to ensure that nothing like the Chernobyl’s events happen again, I do not feel confident that such an incident wouldn’t be repeated. Various unforeseen circumstances could risk nuclear accidents. The Fukushima accident in Japan in 2011 was similar to the Chernobyl accident as radioactivity was released due to volatile radionuclides in both (Steinhauser et. al., 2014). This shows how even with increased regulations, accidents regarding radiation can still occur such as natural disasters. It’s important to be aware of all the risks so that we can prevent another accident from occurring. The image of the children singing from the 60 Minutes Australia video stuck out to me the most. This video highlighted how the children would be affected most from the Chernobyl events. The thyroid of children are more vulnerable to radiation carcinogenesis which has led to characteristics of thyroid cancer in children (Hatch et. al., 2005). Health issues and psychological impacts have been linked to the children exposed to the radiation from the Chernobyl events. I had not heard about this event prior to today. It’s important to remember this event because it reminds us of the possible consequences of technology. This event has led to long-term environmental issues which emphasizes the dangers of nuclear powers. It has led to new developments and regulations regarding nuclear issues and is important to remember so that we do not repeat this tragedy. We can learn from this and mitigate future risks.  please comment. Thank you
