Expert Solution
Step 1

Nosocomial infections(NIs), also called as health-care associated infections or hospital-acquired infections, are those that are acquired by a patient within a hospital's environment/surroundings. Modes of transmission is through nurses, health care workers, patients, medical instruments/equipment, etc. The major cause of NIs is the increase in multi-drug resistant pathogens(MDR) such as Staphylococcus aureus, beta lactamase producing bacteria, vancomycin resistant enterococci, etc.

The most common infection sites include the blood, the urinary tract, the lungs and the surgical wounds.
