how do
I find the yield with the characterization

Product characterization:
0.91 g of the crude product
0.77 g of the final product
М.р. (crude): 85-93 °C
М.р. (final): 104-106 °C

Setup:
• placed 1.15 g of 1,4-dimethoxybenzene, 2.2 mL of tert.-butyl alcohol, and 3.4 mL glacial
acetic acid in a 125-mL Erlenmeyer flask
• the mixture was swirled until the solids dissolved and then placed in an ice bath for
10 minutes
Running the reaction:
• 4.50 mL of concentrated sulfuric acid were placed in an ice bath for 10 minutes
• the sulfuric acid was added dropwise to the cooled reaction mixture while swirling
(~ 10 minutes)
• the reaction mixture was placed on the bench and allowed to warm up to room temperature
(~15 minutes), was swirled three times during this time
Product isolation:
• 14 g of ice was added to the reaction mixture before 50 mL of water was added to cause
precipitation of a beige-colored solid
• the solids were isolated on a small Büchner funnel using vacuum filtration, washed with
water, and allowed to dry until the next meeting
• the crude product was recrystallized from a total of 10 mL of hot methanol
• the solution could cool to room temperature (~10 minutes) and then placed in an ice bath
(~15 minutes)
• Upon cooling, a light beige solid formed that was isolated by vacuum filtration
• The solid was washed with 2 mL of ice-cold methanol and then air sucked through the
solids to dry them (20 minutes)
