Chemical Reactions of Copper Introduction: The objective of this lab was to determine the percent recovery, or percent yield, of copper. After going through multiple reactions with nitric acid, sodium hydroxide, heat, sulfuric acid, and magnesium, the metallic copper was regenerated. The starting 0.021g of copper changed from solid to liquid to solid to liquid, and finally ended at a solid state. The original copper was 0.021g and the ending copper was 0.008g creating a 38.10% recovery. Results

During this unit, we learned about 5 types of chemical reactions. They consist of Synthesis, Decomposition, Single Displacement, Double Displacement, and Combustion. A synthesis reaction or direct combination reaction is one of the most common types of chemical reactions. In a synthesis reaction, two or more chemical species combine to form a more complex product. A + B → AB. Chemical decomposition, analysis or breakdown is the separation of a single chemical compound into its two or more elemental parts

Properties of Chemical Reactions Ms. Whitty, Science 10 Fiona Adams, November 1st, 2012 Introduction Chemical reactions are a part of our daily lives, from rusting metal to making bread to leaves changing colour in the fall. A chemical reaction is the process that occurs when two or more substances combine to produce a chemical change. When a chemical reaction takes place, the change is indicated by one or more qualitative properties. The colour or odor could change, gas could be produced

Is A+C a chemical reaction? Yes, because of serval chemical changes happening to the solution before and after. I came to this conclusion by using three pieces of evidence. The three pieces of evidence were a ph imbalance, a dramatic density rise, and a change in electroconductivity. The first piece of evidence I found came from the density lab and the ABC lab. The evidence was a un-natural and substantial increase in density. The density was 0.75g/cm^3 for both A and C, but later A+C had a density

In this laboratory the objectives were to understand the effects that temperature has on a reaction, be able to calculate the reaction’s rate constant, and to calculate the activations energy from the recorded rate constant. Activation energy is the minimal amount of energy that is necessary to result in a chemical reaction. With an insufficient amount of energy, a reaction won’t occur, too much and it will react just fine. A great example of this can be lighting a match. The friction created when

Introduction : Chemical reactions are a process that involves, rearranging the molecular structure of substances to create new ones. There are about 5 types of reactions, however, the 3 most significant types are synthesis, (e.g. 2Na + Cl2 → 2NaCl); decomposition (CaCO3 → CaO + CO2); and finally combustion. Combustion is a rapid chemical combination of a substance (fuel) with oxygen, including the production of heat and light (e.g. CH4 + 2O2 → CO2 + 2H2O). In these types of reactions, bonds are broken

Chemical Reactions Chemical reactions are the heart of chemistry. People have always known that they exist. The Ancient Greeks were the firsts to speculate on the composition of matter. They thought that it was possible that individual particles made up matter. Later, in the Seventeenth Century, a German chemist named Georg Ernst Stahl was the first to postulate on chemical reaction, specifically, combustion. He said that a substance called phlogiston escaped into the air from all substances

Enzymes are specialized macromolecular catalytic proteins that help our bodies energize specific chemical reactions. All chemical reactions happening inside of our bodies are catalyzed by specific enzymes. These enzymes are vital components of our well-being and help keep us running the way we do every day. Enzymes also carry out a variety of functions other than speeding up chemical reactions in the body. Enzymes serve to collect nutrients and energy from food, and they also help in the process

A Simple Chemical Reaction with Beautiful Colors. Introduction In this lab we are going to be working on chemistry and a chemical reaction. A chemical reaction is when two or more chemical meet each other causing a change or reaction to the chemicals being mixed. We are going to do a chemical reaction ourselves, we are going to Represent this chemical reaction with milk, food coloring and dish soap. purpose of this lab is to observe the changes in a chemical reaction and how factors affect the system like increase concentrations, temperature, pressure or common ions affect the outcome of the overall reaction and its equilibrium. The Le Chatelier's Principle is used often in order to determine the direction of a reaction, like a balance when disturbed it shifts to more over to one side than the other; in this case if one side of the reaction is stressed the other side will react to counteract
