Current trends of making houses sustainable and use zero-net energy will take time and research to be implemented most effectively and used on a large scale, but it is the drastic change that is needed to solve the issue. There are many different combinations and approaches to a sustainable zero energy building. In order to describe the current trends I will look at two different buildings, the ZOE building located at Discovery Park and America’s most efficient home built in Salt Lake City, Utah. I will also explain LEED certification, HERS and ENERGY STAR in order to explain how the efficiency of sustainable buildings and appliance are nationally measured.

This project is to describe my energy house and what I think could have made it turn out better. I feel that my house turned out decent but there are definitely things that could’ve helped it. These things would be color of the house, double and triple pane windows, weather stripping, window placement, and ceiling fans.
It is evident that a wind turbine is the not most efficient renewable energy source to power a home. But, over 20 years the cost of the wind turbine would increase. This would also be a very large investment that may not be the most economically viable. Similar to solar panels, it would be beneficial towards the environment, but may not be an appealing factor of a home. Although they do have a much larger after tax cash flow, they are also a much larger, and impractical investment.
