Are Gmos Safe Or Harmful?

Generally Modified Organism better known as GMOs are becoming a popular topic of argument around the world. The question on everyone’s mind is whether GMOs are safe to consume and what effects they may possibly have. GMOS while becoming a topic today have been around for years now. Scientists have been genetically altering crops for years now and this idea has been around for some time. Nonetheless, GMOs are becoming the new wave of discussion among many. GMOs are needed today to help the food shortage but first studies need to be done to show are GMOs safe, the impact they have on the environment, and to show what are the pros and cons are. First, GMOs being safe depends on basically who the person talks to or what study they may look. When asking the question of whether GMOs are safe, the answer will be different from both sides because there is not enough research done on the subject. According to Gregory Jaffe, director of the Biotechnology Project at the Center for Science in the Public Interest, he says “the current genetically modified crops -- which he says are generally one-gene additions -- are safe. He says no food is 100% safe -- genetically modified or not -- and the odds of having an adverse reaction to a genetically modified food are slim.”(Web MD, p.2) Gaffe helps to show that only the first generation of GMOs is being called safe.
