i. Preview: Net Neutrality It’s the biggest fight of the year Muhammad Ali vs Mike Tyson. Two of the best heavy weight boxers of all time are preparing to go head to head in the ring. Which one do you choose? The one with the lightning fast speed or the one with heavy jabs. Now imagine your internet service providers going toe to toe. Comcast vs Time Warner cable. When you consider the amount of subscribers each of them has numbers show that Comcast 22.3 million which is twice the amount of consumers as Time Warner coming in at just 12 million.
ii. Although each internet service provider are neither lightweights within the industry, it is safe to that Comcast has far more Conglomerate power than any other smaller internet service provider. With this type of power

I will argue that Net Neutrality shall remain constitutional however it should not give the government power over the internet. Also charging everyone the same price for their internet usage isn’t fair so it should be regulated and it would present problematic issues such the muting of controversy in speech.
B. Body Paragraphs
i. Verizon v FCC(2014) in this case the Appeals Court of D.C ruled that the Federal Communication Commission could NOT regulate internet service providers as “common carriers” and in fact that these companies could favor some content over other content with higher speeds. I will argue how unconstitutional and “unfair” this ruling due to the fact that some content providers thrives off of the internet solely.
ii. Also charging all the users the same price should be regulated essentially if the person uses more data they should pay for more data, and the people who doesn’t should pay less.
iii. Allowing ISPs the opportunity to favor their data or broadband with as desired would also enable smaller business owners or even start up entrepreneurs an unfair advantage to create a market or even properly launch the business due to the anti-competitiveness.

For the past 45 years Comcast Corporation has provided customers with variety of entertainment. Comcast is the fourth largest cable company in the world. Comcast is now serving more than 21 million customers. Comcast Corporation innovatively provided millions of customers with products and entertainment around the globe. Comcast Corporation has merged with different telecommunication companies as well as other entities such as E! Entertainment television, QVC, and others channels. Comcast Corporation goal is to become the number one cable provider in world (Comcast, 2008).
Verizon’s business is most heavily influenced by the advancements in technology, but other industry changes and government decision making are other social issues changing Verizon. As previously discussed in the essay, Net Neutrality is a bill that projects the future of the telecommunications industry. In the case that it is protected it will prevent a monopoly of the internet which will benefit more than just consumers, but for Verizon the abolishment of the bill will mean opportunity to increase profits through selling the internet since it will no longer be a free utility (Maisto, 2014). Thus, the industries future profits lye on the decision of Net Neutrality.
The issue of 1st amendment rights are critical subject in a Democracy such as America. For example, in the past countries like Nazi controlled Germany control media content to push out their extremist ideas and to squash any opposition content. That’s why government intervention is imperative to protect individual’s rights of free speech, freedom of press, and right to petition especially in relation to cable regulation. The best way to measure if government intervention in cable regulation is infringing upon citizens 1st amendment right is to focus on major consumer demands. The most appropriate goals to address the problem are to be able to please majority of consumers by implementing the perfect balance between autonomy and control when
For most consumers, the opposite is true. Why should consumers care about how much ISP's profit? The reason is because profits drive innovations. ISP's claim that net neutrality laws hinders their ability to invest in improved broadband infrastructure. Loosing profits to net neutrality will hurt the country's broadband infrastructure, while pro-neutrality people want to spend tax money on
The biggest concern is that the internet will become pay-to-play technology with two tiers: one that has speedy service and one that doesn’t. The high-speed lane would be occupied by big internet and media companies, and affluent households. For everyone else there would be the slow lane.
have no choice as to who their internet providers are or the choice of broadband speeds that are
On 23 April 2014, the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is reported to be considering a new rule that will permit Internet service providers to offer content providers a faster track to send content, thus reversing their earlier position on net neutrality. Municipal broadband could provide a net neutral environment, according to Professor Susan Crawford, a legal and technology
Net neutrality should be enforced and the internet should be completely free and open to see all the content we want. The things we can and can not see on the internet should not be determined by the internet service provider we use. We as the user should be able to determine what we want to access and what we don’t. It is unjust that most people don’t even know this is going on and that they don’t have access to all the information on the internet. The internet may be the greatest resource people have. It wrong to have it being controlled by service providers out for their own gain. The internet should be free to everyone no matter their location or financial situation because information shouldn’t be held back from anyone. If someone wants to access specific information they should be allowed too no matter where they are accessing it from or
The idea being that a company could slow a site that they have competition with so that it would incentivize the consumer to use their alternative for the website. So if Comcast wanted to get people to stream shows off of their service, they could slow down the connection to services like Netflix. The worst case scenario from this field is an internet where the government does nothing to prevent “fast lanes” emerging where users who pay extra are given preferential treatment and have their internet speeds ramped up. This would leave the normal everyday user forced to pay extreme amounts in order to get the basic internet speeds currently available. Another concern is that it may become like cable television in which one has to buy access to websites in bundles like channels to get normal speeds or at load them at all. There is evidence of companies wanting compensation to load certain websites, for example: Netflix saw a 27% decline in access speed for its users and have been refused service from companies like Comcast and AT&T unless they paid for the access, a direct violation of their position as common carriers
Marvin, I really enjoyed reading your post and the example that you provided. I see exactly where you are coming from with this post as I myself have made an attempt to help my parents lower their FIOS bill or change provider. As I was comparing the companies, they both in my opinion force a customer into a package they were not fully satisfied with. Yes maybe you I could have left, but the other provider lacked something that I needed or had what I needed and charge more than what it was worth. I truly feel like these two companies Verizon and Comast are monopolies because the limited option's when building a package. Again great idea for using Comcasat as an oligopoly especially in the Henrico area. If Verizon was to ever set foot in the
Not only would this have a negative effect on us people who enjoy good internet speed and free usage of the web but a tremendous consequence on small businesses and marginalized individuals who meet and have power on the web. It would make it a lot more difficult for kickstarting companies who rely on the web for numerous things. LGBT communities and religious groups meet on the internet and have a bit more power there making things much more

The concept of network neutrality (more commonly referred to as net neutrality) has been a fixture of debates over United States telecommunications policy throughout the first decade of the twenty-first century. Based upon the principle that internet access should not be altered or restricted by the Internet Service Provider (ISP) one chooses to use, it has come to represent the hopes of those who believe that the internet still has the potential to radically transform the way in which we interact with both people and information, in the face of the commercial interests of ISPs, who argue that in order to sustain a competitive marketplace for internet provision, they must be allowed to differentiate their services. Whilst this debate has
Threats from outside of the company have forced Comcast to start evaluating what they need to do to adapt, change and grow their company in the future. Comcast now has increased
The telecommunications industry is a multi-billion dollar industry worldwide. The key success factors in this industry are hard to pin point, because they vary from having the right amount of money to having the right amount of customers. This industry is a very expensive industry to do research and development in. Besides the money required for R&D the companies in this business have to spend tremendous amount of capital on advertising and consumer awareness. The services provided by the different competitors in this industry are essentially the same but with very different reputations. AOL spends millions of dollars every year to send free trial C.D., in order to gain customer awareness. Which in turn shows the results as being very successful, making AOL the largest internet-service provider in the United States.
