Effective Policing

Society in general have showed the distrust, protests and many questions for the like hood of the police profession. The reputation of the police profession is that of the 6 pillars of policing in the modern world as outlined by the President’s Task Force on the 21st Century Policing, which sought to recommend steps forward. Under the banners of ‘Building Trust and Legitimacy’, ‘Policy and Oversight’, ‘Technology and Social Media’, ‘Community Policing and Crime Reduction’, ‘Officer Training and Education’, and ‘Officer Safety and Wellness’ – here are concise definitions for each one and what they mean for American policing ("Final report of the resident’s task force on 21st century policing," 2015).

Policing is a very difficult, complex and dynamic field of endeavor that is always evolves as hard lessons teach us what we need to know about what works and what don’t work. There are three different Era’s in America’s policing: The Political Era, The Reform Era, and The Community Problem Solving Era. A lot has changed in the way that policing works over the years in the United States.

The varying strategies for policing can be confusing, but is necessary in order to best address crime in a community. By establishing different methods, studying, applying, and then analyzing them, officers are able to refine their activities in order to improve their performance. Also, many of these strategies address different types of issues that may arise in a community. For example, some methods are better for dealing with drunk driving, whereas others work well to prevent violent crimes. My method, titled Neighborhood Focus Policing, combines Community, Hot Spot, and Intelligence Led Policing in an effort to best target and reduce crime.

The nation was jarred by events that occurred in 2014 in Ferguson, Missouri; Staten Island, New York; Cleveland, Ohio; and in 2015 in Baltimore, Maryland. These events which followed officer-involved incidents in these American cities and around the nation exposed deep divides between communities and their police departments. As the discord reached a fever pitch, law enforcement agencies nationwide began the process of self-evaluation, reflecting on policies and practices and implementing innovative strategies to better engender community policing principles, build trust, and allay fear.

While these foreseeable critical issues certainly pose a set of substantial concerns for and potential threats to policing in the future, many can be dealt with and effectively addressed in the present-day through the implementation of a handful of changes. I imagine the small town Rixton of 16,000 citizens experience with law enforcement is probably inconvenience and inconsistent. For example, one month the citizen might experience an officer being friendly and respectful versus the next month the citizen feels as though they been victimized or violated. Conversely, I think most police departments experience the inconsistency in their police department because a few percentages officers have their own way of policing. However, in the town of Rixton, a population of 16,000, that inconsistency may seem greater because 6 out of 36 officers are doing their own thing, which makes the percentage 17%, close to 20%. For the final project for this American Policing course I’ve created a research paper on Policing in America. Throughout the contents of this paper I have identified whether the current policing philosophies have a positive or negative impact on the communities and how I’ve arrived at this conclusion. I have provided this critical assessment and recommendation based on text readings, scholarly research, and personal experience, in and out of the bonds of this course.

Reactive patrols and proactive patrols are mainstays of American police agencies. Reactive patrols provide the required rapid law enforcement response to citizen requests for assistance and other emergencies. Meanwhile, proactive patrols provide the necessary planning and allocation of police resources to effectively respond to specific, ongoing problems such as "white collar crime" and the "victimless crimes" of drug transactions behind closed doors. Careful examinations of each patrol type and the effects of using exclusively reactive patrols or exclusively proactive patrols show that a balanced approach using both types of patrols gives the best law enforcement response to the needs of the community.

Policing can be positive by interacting more with the community in the sense of letting the people know that they are there to help with any serious problem that a person may have. It can also be more positive by officers staying calm when assessing a situation because it is a stressful job and sometimes a civilian can make the job very difficult, but having good communication skills can help the officer keep calm, and stay professional at the same time keeping a good image to the

Police have a big role to fill when trying to maintain peace in society. According to the National Institute of Justice, “Community Policing is a model that creates partnership with the community and addresses underlying problems (Pollock 185).” Without the partnership, the relationship between police officers and the community would be a bit complicated, especially when it comes to dealing with a diverse community. A diverse community is a community that has different kinds of race and different cultures.

The pros for keeping the sign up would be to deter “would be” burglars from attempting to burglarize the property. People would think first before they act on any evil intentions.

Proactive in policing is the best way to reduce crime. By maintaining a visible proactive police in a community will deter crime and criminal behavior, as well as to reduce the public fear of crime. These goals are equally important and also contribute to enhancing trust between citizens and police. These police officers must actively enforce laws even for low-level crimes and violations before a call for service. This will prevent more serious crimes in the future. Law enforces officers have to shift away from using only reactive policing tactics and also responding to calls after a crime occurs.

Police agencies all over the world implement different policing strategies in accordance with the purpose. Community policing is one of the philosophy in which most of the countries effectively working with it. According to U. S. Department of Justice Community policing is a philosophy that promotes organizational strategies, which support the systematic use of partnerships and problem-solving techniques, to proactively address the immediate conditions that give rise to public safety issues such as crime, social, and fear of crime (n.d). This essay critically examines the conditions, which would impact both positively and negatively on the police procedures required to implement community policing strategy in the Maldives.

Policing is a vital and visible component of our criminal justice system. To protect and serve is a basic responsibility of every police department, specifically in Canada. In Canada, citizens have a lot of faith in the police, as they look forward to police for any kind of safety concerns they may have, yet people are also very quick to judge the police. The police play an important role in minimizing threats and maximizing safety of their citizens. The role of the police in our society is shaped by social, economic and political factors.

Proactive policing requires police to work with members of community to become familiar with matters that needs an attention before a crime
