Cultures have been copying each other since the first groups of people roamed the earth. When people see something they like, many will copy the idea to make their own lives more enjoyable or more efficient. This allows unique characteristics of every civilization around the world to become unified. Authors such as Andrew Marantz, Steve Olson, Leslie Savan, Manuel Munoz, Steve Olson, Kwame Anthony Appiah, and Malcolm Gladwell, all believe that the world can become a more unified place. They believe that through media, cultures are blending appearances, traditions, jobs, and social standards on which everyone can live together in a more peaceful world. NOT FINISHED The world has already blended cultures together in many ways. To begin, cultures …show more content…
American’s culture also plays a big role by creating jobs around the world. Many of the jobs created are through fast food chains. An example of this is how eastern and western civilization copy each other's character traits. Similar to language, China has been influenced greatly by American culture. For example, “KFC boasted 4,260 locations in only 26 years. China now consumes twice as much meat as the U.S., a whopping 71 million tons per year” (Foodtank). These new locations are creating millions of new jobs throughout countries. These new jobs allow poorer countries to boost their economies thus helping the cultures thrive. It also shares the wealth around the world. Manuel Munoz, author of “Leave Your Name at the Border”, tells the story of his stepfather, Antonio and how Americanization affect his family. In order for him to work in American owned places he changed his name to Tony. This allowed him to have a greater chance of getting a job, because very few people would hire Hispanic workers at the time. This almost forced change was never welcomed either. Workers were supposed to change their identity and culture in order to feed their families. (Munoz 309). This culturalization is very beneficial to many countries, however it can be at the cost of the workers cultures and even their …show more content…
Culturalization has made huge steps forward and will continue to make changes until the world is unified under the belief of cosmopolitanism. The definition of cosmopolitanism is “that all human beings belong together in a single community” (Dictionary). Kwame Anthony Appiah writes in his article “Cosmopolitanism” about how every human being who has ever been on the earth is essentially the same. He shares how everyone is the same at birth, but taught to have different beliefs (Appiah 68). Meaning that everyone was created the same and should be able to get along no matter what cultural beliefs people might obtain. Supporting this argument is the author of “Small Change”, Malcolm Gladwell. Gladwell describes an incident that took place on February 1, 1960, when the famous Greensboro sit-ins occurred. Social standards during this time were to be segregated but that all began to change after these and many other sit-ins. Word spread through the media about the events and by the end thousands of people were involved which sparked the Civil Rights movement (Gladwell 231). Gladwell discusses how with new social media today it is easy to become involved and learn about different world and cultural events. Maybe this is what will truly help the world turn the corner and create new social standards that will bring people together with a cosmopolitanism
American culture is heavily influenced by the Hispanic culture because when Hispanic people move to America they bring their culture with them. Their culture has influenced our religion, cuisine, social media, etc. Hispanic people make up 15.8% of the population in America so it is no surprise that they are the leading minority group to have influence on American culture.
Because my neighbor is considered suburban it often gets a bad rep. A lot of people think that suburbs are boring and aren't interesting. As this suggests, the problem is also cultural. For the most part, American culture and opinion are still created, even in the Internet age, in cities at either edge of the continent. If intellectuals do deign to look at the suburbs they assume that so much banality must be hiding something deeply
Finally, globalization has given way to human development through culture integration, information sharing, and competition between countries. As people disperse from their native countries they take with them their culture and ideologies. At the same time technology is rapidly advancing, allowing information to be instantaneously shared across the globe. These events culminate in the diversification of society. As opposed to living with one view of the world people can now choose from any number of beliefs or views and find others that share them.
Culture is a very vital part of the world as we know it today. There are very many different cultures all around the world. In the USA, we have a mix of all the different cultures and and family values. From the original Native Americans that inhabited America to the Middle Eastern people in Afghanistan. These people groups have brought their language, food, values, and customs with them.
Politics has always been closely related to the transformations of architecture styles. The transition of one region’s political dynamics will certainly influence the exterior forms and the structural connotations of the symbolic buildings. Different kind of political changes will also result different kind of architectural stylistic shift. The independence of Turkey as a new nation and the colonization of India by the British empire reflected the influence of political changes in architecture and how new architecture style is introduced during such periods.

Within any cultural group, a set of behaviors and courtesies becomes the norm and is passed to the next generation. As time passes and the world progresses, cultures adapt and evolve. This is how some groups of humans have been able to go from hunter gatherers to living in modern, high-tech cities. As the human population expanded and began to inhabit areas all over the world, each group developed their own set of languages and cultural norms. As beautiful as it is to see countries have their own identity being defined by their culture, this can also lead to rivaling nations having conflict with others’ ideals or beliefs. Many of the wars in human history have been fought due to such conflicts and that is why it is imperative that people develop cultural awareness to avoid such
Hispanics have greatly influenced U.S. culture. Their contributions have impacted just about every aspect of society and they have become a part of our nation’s diversity. Hispanics are typically defined as people from Spanish speaking countries or directly from Spain. According the to U.S. Census Bureau (2015), Hispanics make up more than 17% of the population with 55 million living in the United States.
Did you ever know that every country has different cultural values and norms that may cause misunderstanding among cultures around the globe? Of course, I didn’t really know that till I migrated from my country to the USA. A long time ago, I believed that the world was filled with homogenous societies which are based upon one culture only and that culture must be my own culture which I must follow as the ethnocentric standard to all other nations in the world. But later, I had experienced living in multi cultural communities and different continents around the globe, such as Africa and Asia, where getting involved in other people’s lives is very common. As a result of my experience, I have realized that American cultural values have less
The culture of the original colonies that live in the United States in the 18th centuries were different than it is in present day. Their form of arts, sciences, and media would be called mediocre in today’s society but at the time they were viewing this as a revolution and vast improvement because of the change of thinking that had been brought up by The Great Awakening and Enlightenment. For one their art developed through Architecture which had improved considerable since the initial migration to the U.S. along with their painting, and literature. During this time Science had also started to advance through medical and electrical means, but their media had also improved due to the printing press and the distribution of newspapers. So during this time culture had started to take root and become a big part of the colonial life.
During the 1400's Europe underwent through significant economic, cultural and political changes. The Renaissance, period which began around the 1300's and ended nearby the 1700s, brought with it the rise of powerful Nations. Advances in the technological area drove Europeans to be able to develop navigation instruments, ships, and guns. Those new implements determined the beginning of the exploration and colonization period. Africans used to have a well-established trade system, however, the arrival of the Europeans altered such system.
I come from a place that is heavily influenced by Mexican and American culture mostly due to living in a border town with Mexico. My mother is more in touch with her Mexican culture, while my dad is more influenced by a Tejano/American culture. They both have been great influencers in the person I am today. Growing up in my house all I spoke was Spanish mostly due to my grandmother only knowing that language, I eventually learned English as I entered school. I remember spending my weekends watching shows and movies like ‘El Chavo del Ocho’, ‘La Nina de la Mochila Azul’, and ‘Rebelde’ or listening to the songs my mom put by Mana, Juan Gabriel, and Vicente Fernandez. I took a liking to school from a young age, I found learning fun and friends
The students for a democratic society explain the changes took over the culture of America within the past few years. The government systems or organizations are manipulated and shows no interest towards people rather than “of, by, and for the people.” The threat of war, overpopulation and technology are testing the country’s commitment towards democracy and freedom. The fact is that each individual shows interest in his/her own progress and does not show any interest towards its own fellow people. The institutions and government organizations show a lot of interest towards their profit, but least interest towards the growth of the nation as a whole. Investors bought the skills and potentials of intelligent people for their own profit. There
A) There were a couple of things that surprised me when I started citizenship classes. First, the urge that some students had to feel like they were a part of the American culture. During, some conversations that I held with students, some felt like they were not a part of the American culture, nor their native country. In all, feeling alienated and shunned by non-immigrants in the United States. In lecture, we spoke that migrants felt like “they were not here, nor there,” and I can only imagine what it is like not to be a part of society, simply because they made a sacrifice to improve my family’s lives. We also, have to take into consideration that many of the students were aware that they were still at risk of deportation, being
The concept of culture is something that defines many aspects of one’s life. From physical objects to different ways of thinking, culture adds significance to human life and makes groups of people distinct from one another. Culture is essentially a group of people who come together with similar interests and points of view. According to the Center for Advanced Language Acquisition of the University of Minnesota, “culture is defined as the shared patterns of behaviors and interactions, cognitive constructs, and affective understanding that are learned through a process of socialization.” From a more sociological perspective, culture is a way in which people come together in order to fulfill their needs. These shared patterns and ideas identify the members of a culture group while also distinguishing those of another group.” Culture is one of the things that sets the United States apart from the rest of the world. Not that the rest of the world is not cultural, but the circumstance here is different. Many people of different cultural backroads come to this country in search of a better life. As a consequence, the United States has become a place where many cultures merge together like a colossal pot soup.
