MICROSOFT WEAK RESULT
Background
Microsoft is a well known is a well-known multinational corporation that deals in computer technology. Microsoft was founded by one Bill Gates and Paul Allen. The current Microsoft products that are the best selling in the market are the Microsoft Windows operating system, Microsoft office. We also have Xbox, a line of entertainment of games and also music and video. There is also Bing, which is in the line of search engines.
For the past few months, Microsoft has continued to show or experience weak result despite efforts by its chief executive officer Satya Nadella to make a series of changes. For instance, revenue reported for the January – March quarter of the year 2016 fell six percent to 20.5

On the other hand, piracy is also witnessed in many countries that are developing. Also, we find that strong competitive rivalry creates market forces that actually threaten the development of Microsoft as one of the largest firms in the market. For instance, other companies have now diversified their production, and now they are also offering operating systems and other computer hardware products. Also, the rising popularity of freeware, limits and potentially has an effect of reducing the company’s business. Therefore Microsoft should carry out a thorough SWOT analysis in order to identify the importance of product uniqueness and also product improvement.
Alternative Solutions
On piracy, Microsoft should create awareness on the impact of piracy and also urge users to respect copyrights. The public should be sensitized on what should be considered as generally accepted social behavior, maybe this could help in decreasing piracy (Avi Goldfarb, 2015). Just like the same way the changing of social norms have actually led to the reduction in littering and also smoking. Also, Microsoft Company should provide users some legal means that can enable them access contents or products (Avi Goldfarb, 2015). Microsoft should also provide users the ability and know how on how to identify legal methods of accessing their contents and products. Microsoft should also implement technical controls like digital rights management, network management, product
Microsoft has developed into an inescapable force within the technological field. Coming from a delayed humble beginning, it has had to devote large sums of money to approach the levels of the founding technological companies. Today, Microsoft controls the market in computer software. How they have achieved this status is what some have come to question. Through “bundling” software programs, manipulating other computer companies, and packaging deals with personal computers, Microsoft has managed to eradicate nearly all competitors in the computer software market (Love, 1997). This near monopoly affects the entire spectrum of classes, including the consumer, other networking providers,
Microsoft has grown into an enormous and powerful corporation by a combination of aggressive business practices and having written operating systems (DOS and Windows) for personal computers. From operating systems it branched out into other software which has, along with the operating system, become something of an industry standard.
Microsoft is the software giant responsible for bringing Windows operating system to the PC (personal computer). Microsoft is also a known and well respected company in the global market. The tech giant has dominated the computer industry since 1981. Due to the nature of such a huge company, Microsoft has its hands in multiple markets. Microsoft currently competes in file hosting, software, operating systems, and gaming consoles. Unfortunately, each of the afore-mentioned markets differ from one another. For the purpose of this paper, the market that
Unlicensed software use continued to be a major problem in 2013. Indeed, 43 percent of the software installed on PCs around the world was not properly licensed, an uptick from 42 percent in 2011. The commercial value of the unlicensed installations was $62.7 billion. (The Compliance Gap, 2014). As we can see piracy of software and other digital media is a global problem that adversely affects many businesses and the welfare of employees and consumers.
Viewed together, three main facts indicate that Microsoft enjoys monopoly power. First, Microsoft's share of the market for Intel-compatible Personal Computer (PC) operating systems is extremely large and stable. Second, Microsoft's dominant market share is protected by a high barrier to entry. Third, and largely as a result of that barrier, Microsoft's customers lack a commercially viable alternative to Windows, the operating system of all PC's.
Microsoft’s Windows operating system (OS) became a quick success since its creation, entering into the service of millions of consumers worldwide. Ever since Windows became the dominant OS, rival companies have faced the problem of designing software compatible with Windows in order to maintain their large customer population – failure to do so would be detrimental to their own company. Because Microsoft owns the code to its Windows software, defenders of the company argue that it has the right to distribute (or not to distribute) its code at its own leisure. According to Microsoft, the court order forcing them to sell their code is considered a breach of its rights to freedom and property. (“Frequently Asked Questions”) In addition, the RealNetworks case – which demanded that Microsoft unbundle its Windows Media Player from the Windows software (Krim) – can be considered a breach of the same rights. After all, Microsoft, as a seller, can dictate the terms that it wants to sell to its consumers, leaving it up to the consumers as to whether they want to buy the product or not. (“Frequently”) Therefore, court orders that force Microsoft to either share its technology or change the “bundle” that Windows is sold with are considered by Microsoft to be a violation of their right to freedom and property
Microsoft was founded in 1975, and is the worldwide leader in software, services, and solutions (Career). Microsoft is proud to offer great products and employ outstanding people. Previous Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer once said, “There are many things that are true about Microsoft. We have big goals, big dreams, and big aspirations for the future. We are both competitive with our products and in the way we attract and retain talent. For me, the most important factor is competition for talent, because I know our success comes from the people who work here” (Foley).
How soon we forget about some of the most ridiculous products made by the critically acclaimed technology company Apple. As good as they have been, and continue to be today, they have been known to create some head scratching products. I don't think this ever bothered Microsoft, though, and I am sure that they were laughing at every single one of these three failures.
Piracy has caused many business to innovate to keep up with the threat of digital piracy
Microsoft has been a successful organization, and known as one of the founders of the computing world that the world has become. This is headed by Bill Gates. Microsoft became successful with strategic planning, groundbreaking research, and excellent business commerce throughout the years of operation. Though the industry has growing at an astounding pace with the development of the technology seen in the world today, Microsoft has been able to withstand the industry growth to remain one of the highest revenue companies in the industry today. Microsoft uses advertising to its advantage to continue to attract consumers with state of the art technology. As stated, “Our success depends on our ability to attract new users, understand intent, and match intent with relevant content and advertiser offerings” (Microsoft SEC 10-K, pg. 8).
Microsoft was founded in 1975 by founder Bill Gates, a former Harvard drop out (Lawrence, 455). The business grew and controlled 90% of the market for operating systems, with revenues of over nineteen billion dollars per year (Lawrence, 455). In the nineteen nineties, the Internet generation was starting to explode and Microsoft new that it would be a profitable market. This led to their approach to develop a new product to handle this revolution. Their solution was Internet Explorer, which was created in 1995 to allow its users to access the World Wide Web
The Microsoft Corporation (MS) is a world renowned, multinational computer technology and software company. The company invented the operating system Windows and it is the most popular operating system in the world (Computer Hope, 2017). Microsoft is highly innovative and continuously strives to make technological advances in the computer software industry.
Microsoft Corporation was founded by William H. Gates III also known as Bill Gates and Paul G. Allen in 1975. Since their inception they have been credited for developing various operating systems to coordinate with the personal computer (PC). “Microsoft possesses a dominant, persistent, and increasing share of the world- wide market for Intel-compatible PC operating systems. Every year for the last decade, Microsoft 's share of the market for Intel-compatible PC operating systems has stood above ninety percent. For the last couple of years the figure has been at least ninety-five percent, and analysts project that the share will climb even higher over the next few years (Justice).” Microsoft has also
Microsoft is a highly diversified company. Its technologically-related products span from software to music players to game consoles to web browsers to search engines to phones. However, its flagship product, the product which has been the primary driver of its profits has been Microsoft Windows, the ubiquitous operating system that runs on virtually every computer in the world. Windows has been deemed so critical that even Microsoft's competitor Apple was effectively forced by market pressures to allow its Macs to run Windows, in an effort to boost sales. "As astounding as Apple's success has been, it hasn't put a dent in the Microsoft Office monopoly. [Current CEO] Ballmer and company still profit on every Macbook running Word, Excel and PowerPoint" (Greg 2012).But while Microsoft continues to make its highly profitable Windows products (despite industry criticism about its user features); it has struggled to diversify in its many critical areas, most notable in its music, phones, and Internet service.
Microsoft Corporation started with two close friends who were total computer enthusiasts named Bill Gates and Paul Allen. Despite difficulties accessing computers and other sophisticated technology, they were both computer geeks. In 1970, Gates and Allen started a small firm that specialized in creating small applications for local clients. This company, Traf-O-Data, sold computers to the city of Seattle for counting city traffic. In 1973, Bill Gates left Seattle to study at Harvard University; however, he ultimately dropped out to concentrate on his project with Allen. In 1975, Altair, at the time a famous software company, employed Bill Gates and Paul Allen to write a version of the
