Parenting styles: There is not one set way when it comes to parenting and how parents rise their child or children. A psychologist named Diana Baumrind, studied different parenting styles and their effect on child rearing. She came up with three types of parenting styles: authoritative authoritarian, and permissive. Then a fourth parenting style was added by Maccoby and Martin later on uninvolved parenting (Cherry, 2014). I will explain these different styles on the effect they have on a child weather a young child or adolescence. Authoritative parenting style is thought to be the most effective and beneficial parenting style (Mgbemere & Telles, 2013). They have rules and guidelines they want their children to follow. They exercise control over the behavior of the child. But they emphasize independence and individuality in the child (Brooks, 2013). They are flexible with their parenting style and allow the child to ask questions. They are willing to respond to their child and listen to what they have to say. They communicate with their children. This produces children that have a very high self-confident and independent. When the child becomes an adolescent they feel that their opinions are valued. There are two major self-esteem drops when a child is an adolescent. The first one is during early adolescent and the second is late adolescent (Pickhard, 2010). There are ways for parents to build up their adolescent self-confidence. Parents should be generous with their praise to their children. Make your child feel proud of themselves that it is ok to be proud. Another way is criticize when needed, but constructively. Do not make comments that would destroy or bring down the child. Instead you should use words to build them up and use positive force. Next is parents should consider their adolescent opinions. Even if the question you ask them is
