Our world is full of complications, situations that need people’s attention. Scientists are attempting to find answers for most of the world’s difficulties. Nevertheless, a solution for one problem creates some other obstacle. It becomes impossible to create a solution that does not have side effects. One of the difficult situations in this world is hunger and poverty. Many people lack enough food to live a healthy life, especially in developing and underdeveloped countries. In order to provide sufficient food and maintain food security, scientists discovered genetically altered foods. Genetically engineered foods are grown from plants or animals whose genes are modified by inserting new genes that can increase the plant’s and animal’s resistance to diseases and worms. By doing so, researchers improve crop yield and animal products. In addition to increasing the amount of food produced, scientists enhance the nutritive content of crops by using biotechnology, which results in reducing malnutrition. The issue of producing and consuming genetically altered foods is controversial. Changing the natural content of plants and animals has negative impacts. For instance, genetically altering the DNA of plants or animals have a possibility to create allergens into a food, which results in allergic reactions. Environmentally, genetically modified crops have disadvantages. Plants can be modified to be pesticides and herbicide tolerant. Hence, when plants are sprayed with chemicals, those chemicals contaminate the surroundings. For a while now, the food that we consume has been generated through a far more complicated process than we had ever thought. Genetically Modified Organisms is the process by which food is being altered and grown in ways that do not occur naturally. Farming practices have been altered from organic to majorly GMO, in order to accommodate this highly profitable industry as well as the high demand by the citizens. GMOs allow food to grow faster, act as a bug repellant, and also cause the product to grow bigger in size in a short time span. We have for the most part stopped relying on local farmers and organic product to know depending on what is most convenient to us. With grocery stores being so readily available with anything you could possibly think of, or ask for, it would be hard to pass this convenience up.
Although the increased movement of people, food, and manufactured goods can have negative impacts on public health by providing a sort of highway for the spread of infectious disease, in contrast, it can also have a great positive impact. This movement can also include the increased ease of movement of people like doctors and engineers that can help to improve an otherwise cut-off region, the availability of fresh foods to areas that wouldn't normally have access during certain times of the year, and the increased east of movement of manufactures goods such as medicines. For this reason, the reduction of flow would most certainly have a much more negative affect on public health at this point in time. Instead, other options to control the negative affects must be explored. This can have an uprise in numerous ethical issues in both changing crop materials and testing it (Strachan. T & Read. A 2011). In many experiments livestock that have been feed genetically modified crops has had infertility, early delivers and death. This raises many complications towards crops that are genetically modified as they may carry viruses or bacteria that can be harmful towards humans and animals. Many ethically issues arise from the side effects from these crops on animals and humans. If livestock is affected by these crops this could also mean decrease in production on meat and increase of meat prices because of the demand.
