A consistent approach to behaviour helps pupils learn right from wrong and to appreciate that rules exist for the good of everyone.

It is important to promote appropriate behaviour and respect for others to achieve a safe learning environment, that is orderly, co-operative and purposeful. A good way to initiate this is by establishing ground rules and set boundaries at the start of the course. 2.2 The teacher would need to promote appropriate behaviour and respect for others in the ground rules. Although this is not always adhered to by learners the teacher would make clear to the individual that inappropriate behaviour would not be tolerated and ask them to remain quiet or leave the session depending on the severity of the behaviour. Distractions from learners has the potential to distract others, therefore wasting time and potentially leading to the early commencement of the session.

Eye contact: Teachers who make eye contact open the flow of communication and convey interest, concern, warmth and credibility.

A sense of order within the class can be managed by presenting lessons effectively and establishing positive relationships with pupils- based on mutual respect and rapport. I will, as a tutor, have to develop skills in managing behaviour and use a variety of tactics in order to develop an understanding of students individually and as a group. Hopefully, I will be able to combine that with the correct approach to planning, my approach, the resources to use in order to deal with barriers learners may have adopted towards learning and to maintain a good level of motivation.

This includes prohibitions against assault and theft or respect for leaders (Source G). Given that students are at an age where they are extremely moldable, it is imperative that they learn these rules in school.

One should always remember the fact that students judge a driver's authority based on their first response to rule violations. Students act according to driver's response to rule violation and thus behave based on their expectation.

It is very important that all children are listened to so that their needs can be taken into account so that their learning is relevant and accessible to them.

If anyone should be setting rules it’s students, teachers need to observe the way students learn and they have to help the students in what they struggle in.

This model is centred around principles of rights, rules, respect responsibilities, and relationships. Rogers emphasises the need for teachers to establish a set of student led classroom rights, rules and responsibilities during the establishment period of the year (Killian, Ogden, Shipston, & Facas, 2017). These rights, responsibilities and rules entail the behaviours that are expected in the classroom and protect the student’s rights to; feel safe, be treated with respect and to learn. The rules are to be developed reasonably and provide freedom in the sense students are free to move around the boundaries. As the rules are decided and agreed upon by the students, this develops a sense of understanding and accountability for their own behaviour and learning (Edwards, & Watts, 2008). In order to ensure students are respectful to the rights of students, the teacher must also treat students with respect. To provide a developmentally appropriate learning environment that is safe, healthy, respectful and supportive of children and families. For the learning environment to be safe, I ensure that I always check identification, and have parents notify me whenever someone new to the list will be picking up. I always bring my roster with me to ensure I have all my children with me. I do a roll call every time we get to a new area after traveling anywhere away from our room, and before leaving the room. Another way that I make the learning environment safe is by covering all the outlets in the room, and making sure sharp or dangerous objects are put away, and out of the children’s reach. I put cleaning supplies and other chemicals in high locked cabinets.

As a teacher I must also ensure that I and my staff avoid physical contact with students except for reasons of health and safety, or under supervision.

When discussing ground rules with learners it is important for me as the teacher to establish the rules of the student which may reflect their commitment to the teaching/learning relationship. My own ground rules would incorporate being fully prepared for lessons and ensuring I keep good time for classes to start and finish promptly. I would reciprocate to the students /learners’ commitment to completing assignments by making sure that all marking is completed and returned in equally good time. Further rules to ensure students get the most out of their learning experience encompasses my making sure all have an equal voice when expressing opinions (General Teaching Council, 2009).
