I have unquestionably appreciated working with QuickBooks over the course of the semester. With the use of QuickBooks, I was able to witness the accounting process come full circle beginning with a purchase order, to inventory maintenance, invoicing, booking the corresponding entries, and finally reconciling account balances for year-end. Working with QuickBooks, enabled me to gain a deeper understanding of the flow of inputs and I have been able to use this knowledge with other skills such as utilizing the chart of accounts. For example, if I run into an account in an entry, which I have not, booked to before at work, I now know that the chart of accounts in Oracle OBIEE (my workplace system) will provide me the answer.

I believe there are many controls QuickBooks lacks as an accounting system, but for our purpose, it was great to be exposed to some of them. For example, the Inventory control system allows us to track current inventory levels including what is on sales orders, purchase orders, cost, number of units, and so on to monitor job costs and profitability. We can then measure all of this data and spot the adjustments when we reconcile the balances at month, quarter, or year-end.
Some of the distinct features of QuickBooks to manual accounting systems are rather upfront. We are using a computerized accounting system, not manual handwritten bookkeeping. This means we have the capacity to not only get the job done faster, but also back up all of our data entry within the system. Computerized accounting systems also generate a better control environment thus protecting the integrity of our data by implementing checks and balances that does not occur in a manual accounting system making identifying errors more
