This paper will also talk about how Porter’s Five affects Target’s business decisions. Target also allows famous designers to design products for their stores that are offered for a limited time. (target.com) Threats: With the down turn in the economy, many consumers have turned to Dollar General and Dollar stores; this has caused a decrease in Target’s revenue. Another threat is Wal-Mart and their ability to offer lower prices on their products compared to Target which makes them the low cost leader. (ehow.com) Target also deals with the threat of unionization of their employees. Many employees have expressed concern regarding low wages paid by Target. Like Wal-Mart, Target is against unionization because they believe that employee issues should and can be resolved without third party mediation. The five forces are existing competitors, new entries into the market, substitute products, bargaining power of customers, and the bargaining power of suppliers. Target is looking to beat its competitors at Walmart in the grocery and delivering department. Currently Walmart is doing better in sales in that area. Target is so invested in wanting to make these two departments the best that they can be that they even hired someone from Walmart to oversee the problems and also an employee from General Mills. Target said they would buy delivery logistics from the company Grand Junction to make online shopping easier and more convenient in order to get shoppers away from using other online shopping methods such as Amazon. Grand Junction became part of Target's technology team and they will independently be working with them after their other contracts end.

Target is cannot compare to Wal-Mart in their sales because not lot of people can afford or like to even spend more money for better things. Most of American rather has quantity of items rather than the quality of them. I would agree that most of the products in Wal-Mart is a lot cheaper and their sister company Sam’s Club give them a little more of an edge towards to likes of their customers and their friendly bundles for businesses. Sam’s Club has a lot of bundles from office supplies to foods and drinks. So there is no wonder why a lot of people chooses the Wal-Mart family rather than Target.
