Should the drinking age be changed from 21 to 18? J Some would argue that the drinking age should be lowered to 18, while others would argue the drinking age should stay 21 or make the drinking age even higher. I believe that if you’re old enough to vote, get married, and honorably have the right too to serve and die for your country then you have the right to have a beer. A To begin with the law of 21 or over for alcohol consumption is very ineffective “According to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, underage drinking accounts for 17.5% ($22.5 billion) of consumer spending for alcohol in the United States. In 2006, 72.2% of twelfth graders reported drinking alcohol at some point in their lives.” …show more content…

We shouldn’t deny people 18-20 years old the right to drink. In fact, a good solution for that age group would be too allow the 18-20 year olds to drink but they would legally only be able to drink a lower proof of alcohol. “High non-compliance with drinking under 21 promotes general disrespect and non-compliance with other areas of US law. Drinking under 21 encourages young adults to acquire and use false identification documents to procure alcohol. In this era of national security concerns, including terrorism, illegal immigration, and other threats, it would be better to have fewer fake IDs in circulation and more respect for the law. “Lowering the drinking age from 21 and over to 18 and over would diminish the thrill of breaking the law and drinking under age”. Lowering the drinking age from 18 to 21 would also reduce the number of underage people who are hurt from alcohol-related injuries or accidents due to fear of legal consequences if they sought medical
