We all want adventure; the kind that leaves us feeling revived. However, too many people are willing to risk their own lives in order to achieve it. To say that nothing could go wrong and all good intentions have good outcomes, is to just be naive to the truth that our actions affect others. When given the choice of safety or danger, majority will choose the one that makes them ‘feel alive again’. However, is that feeling worth the cost of not only your life or your money, but others as well? In stories such as The Value of a Sherpa’s Life by Grayson Schaffer, those same adventure seekers take on Mt.Everest. Although their risk is high, the real danger is imposed on those who make the journey happen, many of which have

Caving is dangerous but so is the world on the surface, both have their wonders and their downfalls. Even without the need for exploring the caves Gala, Bill, and Zuzia all agree they would still go caving, where you never know what you might find hidden below the earth's surface. Coming out of the cave after spending nearly a whole week the three explorers could only soak in the view of the surface for a brief moment before they stuck to the shadows while making their way back to base camp until the next
One reason why people undertake dangerous journeys is to gain more knowledge of the Earth and the life the inhabits it. George Catlin, who was both an artist and a writer, is an example of a person who underwent a dangerous journey in the pursuit of learning more. From a young age, he was fascinated by the frontier life and Indian Tribes, this would lead him to travel 2,000 from St. Louis in a Journey that was described as full of “almost insurmountable difficulties” (Letter from the Yellowstone River). Catlin’s fascination with the frontier and Native Americans pushed him to go on a dangerous journey to learn more about them. It is this kind of fascination which drives most people, even those

“Your assignment is to write a persuasive essay and present it to the class in a week. You will be graded based on how convincing it is. Today we will be choosing topics,” announced Mr. Bowerbank, my 7th grade English teacher and ruler of classroom 110. My class simultaneously groaned at the prospect of work. I simply lifted my head with intrigue as it was already May and about time we had our first essay. He then proceeded to give examples of topics we could choose and gave us some time to think before we had to tell him our topic. My classmates were already rushing to tell the teacher their idea lest someone else steal it. That meant the usual abortion, death penalty, or drug use topics were out. I really couldn't think of anything and the teacher was slowly making his way through the remaining students like an executioner beheading criminals in a line. I have always thought that he would make a marvelous supervillain if he had a curly mustache, a tophat, and a cape. Eventually my name was called. I slowly dragged myself over to his desk. Even sitting down, he still seemed to tower over me. “What is your topic Cindy?” As usual in such desperate times, my mind turned to food. “Waffles are better than pancakes.” I figured that a waffle was just a differently shaped pancake with a nicer texture. “Hmm. Excellent topic. I look forward to your essay!” I survived to live yet another day.
Being adventurous is how you start to understand who you really are. Many people believe it is dangerous to travel, not worth it. But I believe, the world is dangerous. There are shootings everyday but getting out there and risking it is just living. Being adventurous shows you how others have to live, what so many people deal with every day. Or what so many people get to see every day, the beautiful yet cruel world we live in. There is a purpose for everything here, it is meant to be seen. We are not here to work everyday and then go home to rest and do it all over again, we were made to make a difference and to understand the world. Mountains were made to climb, oceans were made to be seen, and landmarks were too, “in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a
