Overbooked: The Housekeeping Perspective It is no secret that in all hotels, the director of housekeeping must be able to react quickly and efficiently to any unexpected circumstances that arise. Stephen Card, executive housekeeper at the Regency Suite Hotel, usually starts his workday at 8:00 A.M. with a department meeting. These morning meetings help him, and the employees, to visualized their goals for the day. On his particular busy day, Card arrives at work and is told that three housekeepers have called in sick. This is a serious challenge for the hotel because it is overbooked and has all of its 400 rooms to service. Question: What should Stephen Card do to maintain standards and ensure that all the guest rooms are serviced?

- Scenario: A city’s administration isn’t driven by the goal of maximizing revenues or profits but instead looks at improving the quality of life of its residents. Many American cities are confronted with high traffic and congestion. Finding parking spaces, whether in the street or a parking lot, can be time-consuming and contribute to congestion. Some cities have rolled out data-driven parking space management to reduce congestion and make traffic more fluid. You’re a data analyst working for a mid-size city that has anticipated significant increments in population and car traffic. The city is evaluating whether it makes sense to invest in infrastructure to count and report the number of parking spaces available at the different parking lots downtown. This data would be collected and processed in real-time, feeding an app that motorists can access to find parking space availability in different parking lots throughout the city. Instructions: Work with the provided Excel database.…Chuck is a newly promoted supervisor of a large call center. At the end of November, Ms. Linda conducted and used Graphic Rating Scale in evaluating her subordinates. Karen Valdez got 'Satisfactory Rating', that made Karen wondered why she was rated that way. Ms. Linda claimed that all she knew was to handle customer complaints, selling and some administrative tasks. However, in Karen's defence, she mentioned that Ms. Linda Lindo didn't inform her about the…

The vast majority of Epsilon’s customers make reservations through Epsilon’s website, but a small percentage of customers make reservations via phones. Epsilon employs call center personnel to handle these reservations and to deal with website reservation system problems and for the rebooking of flights for customers whose plans have changed or whose travel is disrupted. Staffing the call center appropriately is a challenge for Epsilon’s management team.
