The mechanism and the reason for maintaining a high concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) around RuBisCo (ribulose-1, 5-bisphosphate carboxylase oxygenase) in C4 (Hatch and Slack plants) plants.
Introduction:
C4 plants are mainly found in dry conditions and always have a risk of dying due to dehydration. Therefore, these plants keep their stomata close as much as possible to avoid dehydration. C4 plants have evolved a mechanism of maintaining CO2 concentration around RuBisCo.
