A Cure for the Common Wart A study conducted by researchers was designed “to determine if application of duct tape is as effective as cryotherapy (liquid nitrogen applied to the wart for 10 seconds every 2 to 3 weeks) in the treatment of common warts.” The researchers randomly divided 51 patients into two groups. The 26 patients in group 1 had their warts treated by applying duct tape to the wart for 6.5 days and then removing the tape for 12 hours, at which point the cycle was repeated for a maximum of 2 months. The 25 patients in group 2 had their warts treated by cryotherapy for a maximum of six treatments. Once the treatments were complete, it was determined that 85% of the patients in group 1 and 60% of the patients in group 2 had complete resolution of their warts. The researchers concluded that duct tape is significantly more effective in treating warts than cryotherapy.

- A study was conducted by researchers to determine if application of duct tape is more effective than cryotherapy (liquid nitrogen applied to the word for 10 seconds every 2 to 3 weeks) in the treatment of common warts. The researchers randomly divided 40 patients into two groups. The 20 patients group 1 had their warts treated treated by applying duct tape to the wart for 6.5 days and then removing the tape for 12 hours, at which point the cycke was repeated, for a maximum of 2 months. The 20 patients in group 2 had their warts treated by cryotherapy for a maximum of six treatments. Once the treatments were complete, it was determined that 17 patients in group 1 (duct tape) and 11 patients in group 2 (cryotherapy) had complete resolution of their warts. Two random samples of 6 rats each were exposed to different environments. One sample of rats was held in a normal environment at 26°C. The other sample was held in a cold 5°C environment. Blood pressures and heart rates were measured for rats for both groups. The blood pressures for the 12 rats are shown in the table below. a. Provide a 95% confidence interval on the difference in the two population meansb. Do the data provide sufficient evidence that rats exposed to a 5°C environment have a higher mean blood pressure than rats exposed to a 26°C environment? For example, the price of a 1 carat diamond tends to be much higher than the price of a 0.99 carats diamond. To study this phenomenon in more detail, we consider two random samples of diamonds, 0.99 carats and 1 carat, each sample of size 23. The average price of 0.99 carats diamonds in the sample is $4451, while the average price of 1 carat diamonds in the sample is $5681. From long-term studies, we know that both the prices of 0.99 carats diamonds and the prices of 1 carat diamonds are normally distributed with standard deviations oj = $1332 (0.99 carats) and o2 = $1613 (1 carat), respectively. (a) Carry out a hypothesis test at significance level 0.01 to evaluate whether the true average price µi of 0.99 carats diamonds is lower than the true average price µ2 of 1 carat diamonds. Specify Ho and Ha, the test statistic, and calculate the p-value or use p-value considerations to conclude. (b) Compute the type II…arrow_forward
- A company that produces cranberries knows that about 7% of its cranberries are bruised in the baggin process. They changed their bagging method, and they were curious if the proportion of cranberries bruised was different. They tested They tested Ho: p = 0.07 versus Ha: p>0.07 where p is the proportion of cranberries bruised. From a random sample of 600 cranberries they found that 60 were bruised. Those results yielded a test statistic of approximately z = 2.88 and a p-value of 0.004. Assume that the conditions for inference were met. Is there sufficient evidence at the a = 0.01 level to conclude that the proportion of cranberries bruised is different than 7% a Yes, because 10% > 7% Yes, because 0.004 7% ОООООarrow_forwardQuestion 1 Researchers assigned 120 subjects randomly to two groups. - Taxpayers who go to a treasury office to pay their contributions complain that they wait more than 7 minutes, so there is a project to open a new box with an average cost of $80,000. The administrator decides to analyze this situation and for this he takes a sample of 14 people, analyzes only one person per day. His analysis consists of measuring the fifth taxpayer who arrives in line and takes the time they wait to go to one of the two current boxes. The times taken are: 4.7, 5.8, 2.0, 6.1, 5.8, 4.7 5.7, 9.4, 5.1, 4.2, 5.9, 8.7, 2.7, 4.8. The administrator wishes to estimate a 95% confidence interval for the mean waiting time of taxpayers, which will allow him to determine whether or not to invest in a new box.a).
