The cell can divide through two processes: meiosis and mitosis. Meiosis is the process in which a single cell divides and undergoes the division twice. It gives rise to four haploid cells that contain half the amount of genetic material present in the parent cell. That is why it is also called reductional division. It always occurs during the formation of gametes.
