Management positions have always been filled with great care as it involves hiring people with a certain skill set. Therefore, organizations have always been careful to place job advertisements in places where they could get the maximum exposure so that they can select from a wider pool of talent. Traditional way of job placement and job search has mainly been dependent on New Paper ads and other publications. However, over time the number of people reading news papers have declined dramatically, this has forced organizations to investigate other areas where they get better exposure.

Many organizations have much better and cheaper tools for getting the attention of the audience than they did 15 years ago. These online tools enable them to filter candidates much effectively and understand their fit for the organization. On the other hand job seekers can also do prior research on the organization from a click of a button and get a complete view about the organization before committing themselves.
Social media sites such as LinkedIn which is specially designed for professionals. It will allow you to maintain a profile where you can constantly update your performances and achievements where potential employers will view and make recruitment decisions on. There are lot of features like recommending some in your circle to a another making connections by inviting others etc.
Networking has always been the most effective way to search for jobs where you are being recommended by someone who knows you and your skill set. This principle now can be done in a much larger scale via social media where you have access to individuals around the world. This has taken social networking and job search and placement to a whole new level.
However, certain disadvantages are privacy concerns and giving unnecessary information to employers, which might create a negative impression about you. Nevertheless, organizations and individuals are all engaged in searching for jobs and placements online and therefore it will continue to be the preferred platform for time to come.
