Interpretation:
You should have written observation and result in your notebook in the lab as you are performing an experiment is to be explained.
Concept Introduction:
➢ A chemistry laboratory is a facility that provides controlled conditions in which chemistry experiments, research and measurement may be performed.
➢ The lab notebook is an important primary record in chemical laboratory and it is an important part of academic grade. It is scientific legacy in the lab.
Answer to Problem 1E
Well recorded notebook increases knowledge of the experiment and for the better understanding of the experiment. Therefore, the lab notebook is important while performing experiments.
Explanation of Solution
A lab notebook is a complete record of procedures (the actions you take), the reagents used, the observations make (these are the data) and thoughts to pass on to other researchers.
Basic rules for lab notebook:
• Left blank pages at the starting for index purposes
• Write all the constant with unit and dimension
• Record all the observations with explanation
• Write down the result and conclusion
Lab Notebook contains following records:
1) Notebook name.
2) Title page: it contain name of researcher, date, instructor name and general project name or title of experiment.
3) Table content: page number, date, subject/experiment etc.
4) Body of notebook:
• Date
• Title or Goal: brief statement of purpose.
• Materials: equipment and reagent or chemical used in experiment.
• Data: Protocols, calculations,
• Observations: it contains reading values of your experiments.
• Conclusion: analysis of experimental readings.
• Result and graph: it contains final calculations, graphs and interpretations.
Importance of having lab notebook while performing experiment:
➢ It gives guidelines for performing the same experiment which has been performed.
➢ It helps to keep track of work.
➢ It record the ideas.
➢ It is scientific legacy in the lab for patent and research purpose.
Well maintained and recorded notebook increases knowledge and better understanding of the experiment. Therefore, the lab notebook is important while performing experiments.

- I am curious if someone could check these answers for me? I believe they turned out incorrect and am curious to see what I need to do to fix them. Thanks!arrow_forwardWhat factors could have contributed to your experimental value being different from the actual value?arrow_forwardThe Covid-19 pandemic has many experts commenting on the science associated with the virus - origins, vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, masks, social distancing. It is important to consider what the experts say, but to also evaluate their statements. We will start with the scientific method. I want you to outline the scientific method from what you have been taught in previous classes. You can list steps, parts, process, short descriptions, whatever. If not taught in previous classes, then you will make your best guess about it.arrow_forward
- In the following sub-questions, use your book and notes to generate an argument for each model of light. Remember, on the first day of class we discussed that argumentation requires: ● a claim (which I've given), • evidence (which you should look up in the form of data or scientific principles) and reasoning that connects the evidence to the claim (which you should generate from your understanding so far).arrow_forward3. Explain how Science and Technology affected the society and environment and vice-versa.arrow_forward4 biochemistry. Why is the answer A? can anyone please explain me this?arrow_forward
- What is green chemistry? Choose the BEST answer. O Chemistry that uses only recycled chemicals. O Chemistry that makes something green in color. O Chemistry that comes from plants or uses plant materials. O Chemistry that uses non-toxic, non-harmful chemicals.arrow_forwardWhat does it mean when the experimental value is larger than the accepted value? What could be some possible reasons for this error?arrow_forwardAs stated in the text, there is no one scientific method. However, making observations, formulating hypotheses, and performing experiments are generally components of “doing science.” Read the following passage, and list any observations, hypotheses, and experiments. Support your answer. Joyce and Frank arc eating raisins and drinking ginger ale. Frank accidentally drops a raisin into his ginger ale. They both notice that (lie raisin falls to the bottom of the glass. Soon, the raisin rises Lo the surface of the ginger ale, then sinks. Within a couple of minutes, it rises and sinks again. Joyce asks. “I won der why that happened?” Frank says. I don’t know, hut let’s see if it works in water.” Joyce fills a glass with water and drops the raisin into the glass. After a few minutes, Frank says, “No, it doesn’t go up and down in the water.” Joyce closely observes the raisins in the two glasses and states, “Look, there are hubbies on the raisins in the ginger ale but not on the raisins in the water.” Frank says, ‘it must be the bubbles that make the raisin rise.” Joyce asks, “OK, hut then why do they sink again?”arrow_forward
- 1-12 The life expectancy of a citizen in the United States is 76 years. Eighty years ago it was 56 years. In your opinion, what was the major contributor to this spectacular increase in life expectancy? Explain your answer.arrow_forwardSome scientists think there are living things smaller than bacteria (New York Times, January 18, 2000, p. D1). Called nanobes, they are roughly cylindrical and range from 20 to 150 nm long and about 10 nm in diameter. One approach to determining whether nanobes are living is to estimate how many atoms and molecules could make up a nanobe. If the number is too small, then there would not be enough DNA, protein, and other biological molecules to carry out life processes. To test this method, estimate an upper limit for the number of atoms that could be in a nanobe. (Use a small atom, such as hydrogen.) Also estimate how many protein molecules could fit inside a nanobe. Do your estimates rule out the possibility that a nanobe could be living? Explain why or why not.arrow_forwardIf all scientists use the scientific method to try to arrive at a better understanding of the world, why do so many debates arise among scientists?arrow_forward
