Metagenomics refers to the direct analysis of genomes contained with an environmental sample. Metagenomics provides the powerful tool for the environmentally friendly design of nanoparticles. It also provides access to the functional gene composition of microbial communities and thus provides a much description to a phylogenetic analysis.
