R in vector component form can be written as follows using figure P3.42.

  R=F1+F2+F3 (I)

Here, R is the resultant force, F1, F2 , and F3 are the components of force

The force F2 with magnitude f can be resolved into two from figure, fcos30°i and fsin30°j, thus F2 will be the sum of both. Similarly F3 will be the sum of 1.4fcos60°i and 1.4sin60°j.

Conclusion:

Substitute, 1.90f for F1, fcos30°i+fsin30°j for F2, and 1.4sin60°j+1.4fcos60°i for F3 in equation (I).

  R=1.90fjfcos30°i+fsin30°j+1.4sin60°j+1.4fcos60°i=0.188fj0.166fi

Therefore, the component form of R in terms of f is R=0.166fi0.188fj_.
