To determine
Concept introduction:
Process costing systems is a system to assign the costs where the production goes through different processes. A product may take several processes to complete and when these processes are separable, the process costing system is applied to ascertain the cost of each process.
Weighted average method:
Weighted average method is one of the methods of process costing, under this method the cost of beginning work in process is mixed with the current period cost and weighted cost and equivalent units are calculated. In other words, the weighted average method does not teat the beginning work in process cost separately.
To prepare:
The Production cost report

Preparing production cost report, second department with beginning WIP; journal entries
Carla Carpet manufactures broadloom carpet in seven processes: spinning, dyeing, plying, spooling, tufting, latexing, and shearing. In the Dyeing Department, direct materials (dye) are added at the beginning of the process. Conversion costs are incurred evenly throughout the process. Information for November 2018 follows:
Requirements
Prepare the November production cost report for Carla’s Dyeing Department. The company uses the weighted-average method.
Journalize all transactions affecting Carla’s Dyeing Department during November, including the entries that have already been posted. Assume labor costs are accrued and not yet paid.
Sharpe Company makes organic salsa in two production departments, Cooking and Bottling. Direct materials costs are added at the
beginning of each process, and conversion costs are added evenly throughout each process. The company reports the following for a
recent month.
Beginning work in process inventory
Activity during the month
Direct materials
Direct labor
Overhead applied
Costs transferred from Cooking to Bottling
Costs transferred from Bottling to finished goods
