Summary Introduction

The major species in the group of A Streptococci are Streptococcus pyogenes, which is often isolated from the upper respiratory tract of the humans. It can cause serious infections, if the defense mechanism of the host is week or extremely virulent strain is encountered. Streptococcus pyogenes cause Streptococcal pharyngitis or strep throat. It also causes infections of the mammary gland (mastitis), middle ear infections (otitis media), and skin infections (impetigo).
