Flagellated protozoans belonging to the genus called Trypanosoma are responsible for causing two related forms of trypanosomiasis. Trypanosomiasis is also known as sleeping sickness, the symptoms of the disease include intermittent fever, headache, and malaise. Progression in the disease can even lead to multiple organ failure and coma and is many cases it can even be lethal.
