Chapter 9.4, Problem 1LO
Summary Introduction

To compare: The function of RTKs to steroid hormone receptors.

Introduction: Receptors are the chemical structures that bind with the signal molecules called as a ligand. The ligand molecules can be proteins, peptides, and lipids that induce the signal transduction pathway with binding to the receptor molecules. For instance, the ligand acetylcholine binds to the acetylcholine receptor that induces the transmission of nerve impulse between the nerves.

Distinguish between the steroid and nonsteroid group of nuclear hormone receptors. Explain the central role of vitamin A in the actions of the nonsteroid group of receptors.
Under in vivo conditions, chronic treatment with a noncompetitive antagonist may lead to the up-regulation of the targeted receptor over time.  True  False Cytokines are peptides that are generally made in advance by specific types of cells, stored in vesicles, and act as autocrine or paracrine factors.  True  False Thyroid hormone is stored in an extracellular compartment.  True  False
