Literature Review Matrix Reviewing of literature is a valuable contribution to the action research process (Mills, 2012). The purpose of this paper is to search for literature using both the Web and the Ashford Library, using only keywords that best signify the area of focus for action research project.
“A thorough, sophisticated literature review is the foundation and inspiration for substantial, useful research” (Boote & Beile, 2005).
Area of Focus
The area of focus can be summarized as, “Can utilizing technology increase student motivation in completing homework”. Keywords being used in search of relevant literature to area of focus

Technology in the classroom is important for teachers, parents, and students alike, because technology use has become a necessary skill for survival in today’s vastly expanding technology driven global economy. Research has shown an increase in student’s success rates when exposed to technology in the classroom. Also technology has opened lines of communication between educators and parents to keep students on track, and help teachers educate better.
With the capabilities and wide-spread availability of technology, it is not uncommon to use electronic machines and computers in our everyday lives. Whether it is a business, government, hospital, or car repair shop, people utilize technology to make their jobs more effective, efficient, and enjoyable. One societal institution where the incorporation of technology seems most beneficial is in our schools, especially in K-12. Through the use of technology, education is made more accessible, versatile, engaging, and easier for both students and teachers.
One day during algebra we were learning a new and difficult way to solve an algebra problem. I didn’t know how to do the homework, so I used the internet to teach myself, the website went through step-by-step and taught me and I was able to finish and get all the right answers on my homework. Technology can be a huge positive to someone's learning experience. Every student should be allowed to have a device in the classroom because it allows faster information, different teaching techniques, and teaches you how to find the right information out of many answers .
With the explosion of technological advances in the 21st century comes the increased need for the incorporation of technology in the educational field. The classrooms in America can all benefit from the use of technology to increase the understanding of academic content whether in the general education or special education setting.

Educators must do their best to reach all students. Research is providing proof that educational technology is positively impacting students’ academic performance. We must work collaboratively to find more ways in successfully incorporating technology within our own classrooms. We must effectively implement technological resources to make the most of our lessons
Recently the school board in the Huntsville Independent School District decided that it would be a great idea to jump into the twenty-first century and add technology into the classrooms. The members of the school board have read articles like “Why Integrate Technology into the Curriculum?: The Reasons Are Many”, which tell why it would be a great idea to add technology into the classroom as well as articles like “In Classroom of Future, Stagnant Scores”, which talks about all of the new ways to learn with technology. The one thing that both of these articles as well as any article you will find both for and against technology in the classroom say that when making this leap from traditional teaching to this new way a great amount of
Chapter four talks about upgrading technology. The books talk about educators adding technology into the classroom. Technology is being used to transform classrooms. Even though the use of technology is suggested or required from teachers some fail to reiterate it into their curriculum (Johnson,2012, pg.83). This is due to confusion or some being scared to try something new. Instead some stick to the familiar such as using technology for communicating with parents, recording grades and attendance. The lack of usage in technology sometimes has to do with lack of resources (Johnson,2012, pg.83).
After reading chapter two, I plan on implementing technology in my future classroom, as much as I can. I learned that technology advances learning and allows students to go beyond their textbook. While it is important for students to learn about the world around them, interacting in the world around them is so much more beneficial. This is why I plan on incorporating technology into my teaching strategies.
Technology is everywhere, it is involved in almost every part of our culture. It affects how we live, work, play, and most importantly learn. With technology being such a fundamental part of our lives and growing each day, it only makes sense that schools incorporate technology in the classrooms. Even though many people support the use of technology in schools, there are those that have concerns about the effectiveness of technology and whether or not it undermines education to solely prepare students for the workforce. Despite the concerns, technology is being integrated with classroom lessons daily, and proving how beneficial it is for student success.
In this article the author presents his belief that educational technology is only effective in increasing student academic achievement if it
Two important aspects of using technology in the classroom to promote learning are included in our text. They are:
With videos on YouTube or with searching on google, students can find everything they need on their personal digital technology such as their computer, phone, etc. YouTube can also help students with their homework Personal digital technology is also a good idea because if a student either forgets to ask a question in class or feels uncomfortable to ask in front of other students, they can easily search for their answer online. Google and other browsers provides help to not only students, but everyone else too. This proves just how useful personal digital technology is with homework, learning something new, and
Technology can help students in all areas of study. Students need to be able to use this technology since, “Currently and in the near future, it is understood that students need to acquire more autonomous skills of ‘information gathering, analysis, and display’” (Todnem, 2004, p. 1). Furthermore, the use of technology, mainly the internet, provides for variation since “Students find themselves bored and burnt-out of the lecture format to classes, so changing the curriculum and instruction to include things like online assignments and educational videogames can be one clear remedy” (Todnem, 2004, p. 1). Teachers who have implemented technology into their classrooms have noticed changes in their students. The most common of these effects being an increase in motivation. In “Effects of Technology on Classrooms and Students” another positive effect is given “technology effect stressed by many teachers was enhancement of student self esteem” (“Effects,” 2004, p. 2).
As we navigate through the 21st century, technology in the classroom is becoming further predominant. iPads are replacing our textbooks, and we can research any desired topic on our smartphones. The impact that technology has had on today’s schools has been utterly momentous. Educators have now seen firsthand the numerous benefits of technology in the classroom. According to a study by IT Trade Association CompTIA, around 75 percent of educators have come to the conclusion that technology has a positive impact on the education process. Educators have also recognized the significance of developing these technological skills in students so they will be prepared to enter the workforce after they graduate (Cox). By incorporating technology in the classroom, teachers are setting our students up for a successful life outside of school. The increase of technology has even changed how teachers teach along with how
