Lifespan Development
Going back forty-five years is not an easy task to complete because I can’t remember some of the finer details of my childhood. I know I was born on a hot August afternoon in Birth Year at Place Of Birth in City ands State. My mother was just twenty-two at the time and was already the mother of two, I was her third child. My father was twenty-one and already a workaholic, I know because my mother would constantly remind me not to be like that. My mother and father were good parents and they tried to give us the best upbringing they could. My father was the kind of person that believed he should provide and protect his family, and he did a very good job of doing that.

I think that the contrast between the two of them gave me a good balance of what I should and should not do. They both have good hearts and are fine people today.
I believe that when people are developing morals you have to have enough emotional development to feel guilty when you do something wrong, enough social development to accept our responsibility for behaving good or bad towards our group, and enough cognitive development to be able to place ourselves in someone else’s shoes. My parent taught me early in life the differences between right and wrong and to treat people the way I would want to be treated. I understood these lessons at a young age because that was the way my parent taught my brother and sister.
Values are where my father had the most influence in my adolescent years. The one that he placed above all others were family values. He would tell me that having a happy family life was one of the most important things that a man could have. He was also a man that didn’t practice what he preached. He would always tell us to mind what our teachers said in school and never lie to anyone and not take something that didn’t belong to us. I remember one time I took a candy bar from a store when I went shopping with my mother. Starting at a young age we begin to learn and form our own morals, by observing others around us. For most people, we begin learning our morals and beliefs from our parents. Most children begin forming their moral beliefs, when they observe and see the actions their parents display during specific situations. For Life-Span Development class, on February 13, 2017, the class had the opportunity to observer the physical, cognitive and social development. In this observation the class Riley, a five month old, female toddler. As a class at the Dordt College, gave the class the opportunity to live observe in the child with the infant’s parent consent.
The society we live in today, with all the emphasis on social media, makes it hard for the younger generation to maintain the same morals and values we were taught growing up. There are three known major areas of study in Lifespan Development which are the Physical, Cognitive, and personal and social development. These groups have to do with age and range of Lifespan Psychology. Lifespan literally connotes from cradle to grave, in other words from conception to death. Lifespan is divided into these following age periods; prenatal, infancy, toddlerhood, middle childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, middle adulthood, late adulthood and death.
Aging causes structural and functional changes in brain. As aging population has become a burden, it is essential to study aging brain aiming to maintain cognitive integrity. Previous studies indicated that young blood improves the function of stem cells in organs including brain by heterochronic parabiosis model. However, data is lacking whether regeneration or beyond occurs by this model. The authors Villeda et al., hypothesized that aged animal exposed to young blood can counteract aging process and rejuvenate brain cognitive function. Therefore, the authors conducted research to examine within molecular, structural, functional, and cognitive aspects.
My parents gave me the love, support and freedom I needed to discover who I truly am and the life I wish to lead. They consistently showed me love through spending quality time with me, emotional supporting me anytime I needed to talk, and lastly giving me the time and freedom to experience and grow in any way I wanted to. It is extremely important to become aware of your values as once you realize them you unlock the power to transform your life. These values influence our day to day choices and how we live life. Once we realize them, we can apply them to our life and ultimately it will serve us in being able to live our very best lives. The 3 core values that I’ve been able to find that I choose to live my life by are growth, experience, and positivity.
Throughout chapter one, I’m given a general scope of understanding on how there are multidisciplinary aspects of development that encompass and influence someone’s life, whether it be biological, socioemotional or cognitive. We have many concepts of gauging an individual’s age, including psychological, biological, social and ,most commonly used or expressed, chronological. These concepts together, including social, economic, cultural and chronological similarities and differences, make up our developmental timeline, with everyone’s being unique. Theories of development to make sense of such complexity have been made including Freud’s psychosexual stages, Erikson’s psychosocial stages, ecological theory, ethological theory and one that attempts to incorporate or use them all, the eclectic theory. With many methods of collecting data and time span research we can identify patterns and offer solutions to many problems. However, there will always be the issue with sorting through and eliminating bias research and irrelevant, misguided and misleading information.
