Partnership working is when different services and professionals work together with other teams of people to meet the needs of children, young people and their families. It brings together professionals to contribute their own specialist knowledge and skills. This way holistic approach to childcare is achieved as featured in Every Child Matters Framework. Below are some benefits of effective partnership:
 Gives children and young people the best possible start by early identification of needs.
 Ensures that everyone working together communicates about the child.
 Support children, young people and their families with additional needs.
 Prevent problems occurring in the first place by early intervention before harm is done.

 A single point of contact that is responsible for co-ordination of service provision.
 Evaluation and review. Monitor progress regularly to know if course or actions is effective or if needs to be improved.

• Barriers to partnership working
Partnership working could be challenging. There are instances when we encounter difficulties such as:
 Poor communication between partners.
 Partners with different skills may have different priorities and working on different goals.
 Lack of information shared between partners.
 Poor co-ordination of services resulting to overlap and inconsistency of service received.
 Inaccurate or inconsistent record keeping. This will make assessment confusing and providing services difficult.
 Some professionals may use technical terms (jargons) resulting to lack of understanding about the roles of different partners.
 Service provision is not evaluated or reviewed if it is making difference of not.

• Importance of clear and effective communication between partners
The most common reason why partnership fails is lack of communication. This is why it is important for partners to have effective communication skills to achieve positive outcomes.
