Photographs are special because you can tell an entire story with them without using a single word, it can convey emotions, and feelings. Photographs make connections, photographs can show challenges in our world along with celebrating the greatness in the world.

Early Landscape photography used the same principles as painters in order to create pieces of art. Before the 18th Century, artists used landscapes as backdrops and as a frame for the principal subject. Towards the later part of the century, however, artists such as Nicolas Poussin started to romanticize the environment, instead using it as a principle subject in paintings.

Before photography was invented, the only way to see what someone or something looked like from that time period was a drawing or painting. Before the invention of photography, there was no true way to know what a person looked like as Pey sketches they had could be inaccurate. Photography changed the world not by only showing accurate depictions of objects but also by introducing a new form of art. Anyone can take a photo, but a photographer uses the principles of art and design to capture a moment and astonishing images.

Photos can be an illustrative material object to shape a story. But photos just reflect upon our memories and try to relate to the overall useless piece of paper. Photos may have value but they are essentially paper and just that. Photos are meaningless because each person just brings his own mental state of mind to the picture.

I have always been a lover of photography. Photos reveal a sense of emotion whether that is happiness, sadness, or anger. It can capture such a powerful moment in time. It shows a person who they are, their past, present, and most importantly how they have grown. With the technology that is readily available, and as many pictures that are captured on a daily basis, a story can unfold.

One way photography is a helpful device is its use in social justice. Oxforddictionaries.com defines social justice as, “Justice in terms of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society." A large portion of the Earth’s population is living in poverty, but there are many people who don’t know what living in poverty looks like. Also, there are a lot of people that will never travel and explore other cultures of the world, which is where photography comes in hand. The helpful thing about photography is that it can allow someone to feel emotion or re-live a moment captured in time just by viewing an image. There is a very common phrase that says, “Seeing is believing”, which is why a photo is much more useful than a description. Images can create a visual for a person to better relate to a situation or to show a person something they could never imagine. When going for a walk, a person takes in the beauty around them. On this particular day, the refulgent sun is extra bright, making the sky a perfect blue. White, puffy clouds fill the sky, slowing moving at their own pace. The wind is peacefully calm, making the trees stand tall and proud. There is no humidity in the air. As this person walks down the road, they see a deer with her two fawns. The moment is absolutely beautiful.
