No one is turned away from the Y. It is a place for people fo all faiths, races, abilities, ages and incomes. Inability to pay is never a reason for the YMCA to turn someone away. Their strength lies in fulfilling their goal of bringing people together.

The organization I picked was Safe Haven or can also be called the mentoring projects. Save Haven serves teens between ages 13 through 18 male or female. Their objective is to increase academic skills and performance, reduce self-defeating behaviors, increase self esteem, raise graduation rates in the inner city schools or Atlanta, and to improve their relationship between their family, peers, and other adults. It started in 1988 when a small group of citizens were worried about their community. It went from a mentoring project to YES!Atlanta and YES stands for Youth Experiencing Success.

Best Youth Services is an organization with values based on enhancing the quality of life of the youth in the community. The severity of the allegations of soliciting sex from a student of Bill Barnes cannot be taken lightly. Mr. Barnes is the scheduled guest speaker for the 25th anniversary banquet being held Saturday night. The luncheon is in honor of all the staff and children who have participated in the program over the 25-year span with the goal of enhance BYS’s reputation in the community. An investigation is being done, but will not be completed before the 25th. A fair and ethical decision has to be made before the anniversary celebration.

For my volunteer experience I chose to go to YMCA which stands for Young Men’s Christian Association. Their mission is to make a healthy body, mind and spirit through their Christian principles. Their main focus in on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The reason I chose YMCA is because I try to live a healthy lifestyle and as that is their mission at YMCA it will be interesting to see what I will learn when I volunteer. Before the experience I thought I would volunteer by fundraising for a cause they support or help provide services in the gym. I also thought I might work with customers in the front desk. I was hoping to work with the children in the sports teams to help coach and teach them more about the sport.
