To review:
The evolutionary reason for the characteristics of prokaryotic genome, that is, it contains a small genome, plasmid, and transposons.
Introduction:
Prokaryotes are single-celled microscopic organisms which can live in different environments. It lacks membrane-bound organelles and their deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is present in the cytoplasm in a structure called as a nucleoid. The genome of prokaryotes is small where its size ranges between 160, 000 and 12 million base pairs (bp). The whole set of genes is present in a single chromosome and it has extra-chromosomal DNA called plasmid which can self-replicate. The prokaryotic genome is compact which contains only protein-coding genes or exons and introns or noncoding regions are absent.

- Why do prokaryotic organisms translate mRNA molecules while being transcribed? Group of answer choices Prokaryotes lack nuclear membranes to separate DNA and mRNA from protein-synthesizing equipment. Prokaryotes use reverse transcriptase to simultaneously translate and transcribe mRNA. Prokaryotes use pre-mRNA to translate, while transcription occurs within the cell. Prokaryotes have functional mRNA that yields portions of the transcribed mRNA into the cytoplasm to allow for translation to occur.arrow_forwardCystic Fibrosis is a genetically heritable disease caused by the loss of the chloride channel, CFTR. Studies of this gene have found that the Gene includes 250,000bp in the DNA. Scientists found that the mRNA had 6,500 nucleotides, and the final protein had 1480 amino acids. How much of the mRNA is untranslated? How much of the RNA that is produced does not leave the nucleus? One of the mutations that results in a disease phenotype can be easily identified because the mutation results in a much longer mRNA then normal. Where would you look for this mutation? What might this mutation have affected?arrow_forwardIdentify whether each of the following descriptions applies to typical prokaryotic genomes only, typical eukaryotic genomes only, both, or neither, according to lecture. Answer options may be used more than once or not at all. Composed of double-stranded DNA only. Each chromosome has a centromere. Species with larger genomes have more genes. - The figure below shows the introns and exons found in gene X. The size of each exon and intron is shown as well. A study on this organism found that two mature mRNA molecules are produced for this gene. One is 867 nucleotides in length, and the other is 685 nucleotides in length. Name the process responsible for producing this variation. Also explain how these 867 and 685 nucleotide fragments were produced by referring to the information provided. Hint: This organism produces a poly-A tail of 150 nucleotides.arrow_forward26) Eukaryotes are unable to couple transcription and translation because: A) the two processes occur in separate regions of the cell B) they do not have the specialized ribosomes that occur in bacteria C) the genetic code in eukaryotes is incompatible with the formation of polyribosomes D) the mRNA of eukaryotes do not have the appropriate spacers that polycistrons allow for polyribosomes to form E) eukaryotic mRNA molecules are monocistronic. asap please.arrow_forwardList reasons why the proteome is larger than the genome.arrow_forward
