What is the difference between an open circulatory system and a closed circulatory system?
To explain: The difference between an open circulatory system and a closed circulatory system.
Introduction:
The circulatory system is the organ system that transfers blood to and from all body parts. The heart is the main organ of circulatory system other than blood vessels. It is classified into two types, namely open and closed circulatory systems.
Explanation of Solution
Differences between open and closed circulatory system:
The closed type of circulatory system is advanced and shows quick distribution. The differences between open and closed type of circulatory systems are as follows:
- Open circulatory system is found in many invertebrates and some animals such as insects, spiders etc. Closed circulatory system is found in all vertebrates.
- In open system, the heart pumps blood through open cavities, whereas in closed system, the heart pumps blood through blood vessels such as arteries and veins.
- In open system, the blood flows at low pressure and requires less energy. In closed system, the blood flows at high pressure and is more efficient.

- How does an open circulatory system differ from a closed one? A)A closed circulatory system is completely encased in the body cavity whereas the open one is not. B)The open circulatory system has a combination of blood vessels and large thin-walled sinuses whereas a closed circulatory system has only vessels. C)An open circulatory system opens into the heart whereas the closed circulatory system does not. D)An open circulatory system drains into the mantle cavity whereas a closed circulatory system drains into the hemolymph. E)An open circulatory system opens into arteries and is drained by veins whereas in a closed one it is just the reverse.arrow_forwardWhy is a closed circulatory system more efficient than an open circulatory system?arrow_forwardWhat is the primary function of Circulatory system?arrow_forward

Question 5 options: a) Movement of blood in an open circulatory system is relatively fast. b) Blood is in direct contact with all organs. c) Snails have an open circulatory system. d) There may be some blood vessels in organisms with open circulatory systems, but these tubes will not be closed on either end.arrow_forward
- What does the circulatory system form up of?arrow_forwardnote whether the statements below are consistent with an open or closed circulatory system. The circulating fluid flows in one direction (unidirectionally) through a circulatory loop. The circulating fluid is called hemolymph. Ostia are pores in the heart, important for circulatory function. The circulating fluid is called blood. The circulating fluid remains in vessels as it moves throughout the organism.
