In countless stories where males give birth, gods use humans for their own pleasure, and fathers swallow their children, it’s impossible to lose oneself in the soap-opera-esque reminiscence. With a glorious name that is known to this day, Hercules is seen as a hero because of his great strength and courage. He has multiple archetypes, but the question is, which one is more predominant? Hercules is different in each story. In the myth he is considered one archetype and in the Disney animation he is considered a completely different archetype.

Hercules, or known in Latin as Heracles, was the greatest of the Greek heroes, a paragon of masculinity. In art, Hercules was portrayed as a powerful, muscular man wearing lion's skin and armed with a huge club. He was also described as being a macho man buffoon, who was very impulsive. Hercules’ home and birthing place is in Thebes, Greece. Thebes is a city in central Greece. It plays as an important setting in many Greek myths, such as the stories of Cadmus, Oedipus, Dionysus and many other important roles in Greek Mythology. The demigod, Hercules has an interesting origin, he is most famous for his 12 labors, and leaves a legacy in words and expressions.

Hercules is considered the greatest Greek hero of all. Unlike Theseus, who was both very strong and thoughtful, Hercules simply is strong. In fact, he is the strongest man who has ever existed, and therefore he considers himself something of a god. Indeed, he is half-god, a son of Zeus. Supremely confident, Hercules showed his brute force from a very early age, when he wrestled a snake that had slithered into his baby cradle.

There are many examples of heroes throughout history and in story books that convey great messages, but what makes your leaders heroes? There are many attributes that make a hero but there are three main areas. To be a hero, one must be willing to make many sacrifices, be humble and not expect anything from the actions, and make positive changes.

After researching this sculpture of the seated couple, I feel it’s a representation of a culture that views each gender equally. Gender roles and equality have been constantly changing and evolving since time began, the responsibilities and roles vary from culture to culture. The size of the two statues plays a significant role to me in showing they are both equal and one is not favored over the other. The man has his arm over the woman, I think this signifies protection and the small bit of dominance that the male had in the relationship, but also shows that the male has some caring and nurturing qualities as well. There are also some smaller figures located on the base of the stool, many believe these are representative of their ancestors

Attaining the title “Hero” does not come easy. They need to be superficial yet have flaws that appeal to the common man. For example, superman is born on another plante giving him superhuman strength on our planet. Once exposed to the energy native to his home, he “wilts”, becomes weak in his skin. Furthermore, Heros must benefit the world in some way a normal human cannot. Though Iron Man may be a mortal man, his IQ outserpasses almost any other human in the world. Given this natural gift, he creates machines kids only dream of. Equally, a hero must gain popularity in some way or fashion to gain respect for example, to Christians Jesus transcends above all other heroes because of the longevity of his existence. Although ideal beauty has changed throughout time, ideal male nudes in classical Western art are essentially young, strong, and handsome figures immortalized in poses demonstrating their athleticism, bravery, or heroic acts. This sculpture fulfills the clue because it depicts Hercules as a youthful, muscular figure standing in Contrapposto, showing that he is sound of both mind and body. David, a biblical hero, which made him one of the many popular character seen in art. David had conquered a giant also known as Goliath who bullied the soldiers of his time. David took down the giant with a single shot of his slingshot and finishing the fight with Goliath’s sword. David had faith, God would defend him even though Goliath had, better weapons. Florence thought of David as a courageous person, I believe the city as a whole wanted these assets. Michelangelo’s statue of David was to represent Florences as exactly what David was. Michelangelo desired his statue to display brainpower and valiance, a tranquil and engrossed mind with control. Therefore I think these features helped Michelangelo picture David.

Another fairly inexpensive type of statue is the concrete or cement statue. These statues can be left "as-is" or painted. They can be molded into any shape, but they will not have the fine detail of some of the other garden statue materials so they are often fairly large. They are relatively inexpensive when compared to the real stone statues. They are heavy and withstand the elements fairly well, but if they are hit or knocked over they can be broken

These seemingly grotesque male members serve to symbolize the frustration of the men. However, they are also a symbol of how the men’s political power has been superceded by the primitive urge for sex, and how the women now hold power over the men. The statue, which is on the platform, is dressed in armor and symbolizes the war. The shield is taken by the women to be used for the purpose of swearing their oath, but they quickly realize that they cannot swear for peace on a shield used for war. Hercules was best known for being the strongest of all heros . Stronger than many gods . He was the last child of Zeus, the only born from a mortal women to evolve to a god after his death. Even just as a baby he was very strong . Hercules was forced to twelve labors and actually accomplished the most impossible task , he is one of the bravest heroes for even attempting these task to redeem himself after killing his family . After accomplishing the twelve labors , Hercules didn't sit back and take a break . He had many more adventures. Hercules was known for is extraordinary strength ,his bravery , and his adventuresome life.

This Hercules Victor sculpture is made out of gilded bronze and was excavated from the Forum Boarium.1 This area is close to the Tiber in Rome with a circular and round inspired layout which is also home to many temples.2 The sculpture of Hercules Victor was located within this complex area and stood in front of the impressive Temple of Jupiter Optimus.3 To display the sculpture right there was not just to illustrate Hercules brute strength, but also hints to the significant meaning of the Forum Boarium to the people and Hercules in that period of time of Ancient Rome. At first glance of the two statues, they look as if they were part of a bigger, grander arrangement. They both have similar style of carving, composition and go together well. So one can suspect that they may have been pulled out of a group even without prior knowledge of the people the figures represented. There are subtle details in both art pieces that helps to convey the emotions without being too dramatic to the viewer. For example, the position of the art work’s hand or the slight leaning of the head. These may seem to be too inconspicuous to convey a message, but when one sees all these elements come together in the piece, it all makes sense. The main focus of these art pieces are the emotions they convey and not necessary the craftsmanship of the artist. The artist is able to capture the viewer’s attention by making the art pieces convey their messages through their eyes and body composition.

The art suggests how the people used these statuettes and what it meant to the prehistoric era and its main audience. It shows how primitive these people were with the practice of sympathetic magic and how it set up an infrastructure, where power was gained over a person, object, or animal by capturing it visually (Fiero 5). This power enhanced itself as the users or audience would see the power as homeopathic almost like how wearing Air Jordans will give one the ability to play like Michael Jordan the same theory applied to this. Heroes solve problems, deliver justice and give people a sense of hope when darkness occurs. Merriam-Webster defines a hero as a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability (Merriam-Webster). Exploring the nature and work of Odysseus and Churchill, both have the essential qualities that qualify them as heroes. By comparing the values of intelligence, courage, and perseverance, Odysseus, the king of Ithaca in ancient Greek mythology, and Winston Churchill, the leader of Great Britain during the Second World War, the similar characteristics displayed reveal their heroic nature and bravery.
