Chapter 23.12, Problem 21P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The product that is expected from the Robinson annulation reaction of 2-methyl-1, 3-cyclopentanedione with 3-buten-2-one is to be identified.

Concept introduction:

The Robinson annulations reaction is a two step process that combines a Michael reaction with an intramolecular aldol condensation reaction. In this reaction a nucleophilic donor such as β – ketoester, an enamine or a β– diketone and an α, β- unsaturated ketone acceptor react to yield substituted cyclic ketones.

To identify:

The product that is expected from the Robinson annulation reaction of 2-methyl-1, 3-cyclopentanedione with 3-buten-2-one.
