Students need to have a space that they can call their own. The "virtual" classroom should be a place where the students can recognize that education is based on sound pedagogy. Tools like Blackboard, or WebCT can help facilitate both assessment and support inquiries on the subject matter. Having objective criteria will help evaluate students and give the student a guideline for what is expected in the class. Students gain increased flexibility in taking tests or turning assignments in. Gone are the days of slipping the assignment under the professor's door or trusting the department

Technology allows for educators to have instant access to a plethora of resources that would not be available if technology was not used in the classroom. Teachers have the ability to plan lessons, create presentations, and have interactive games for students to use as a learning tool through the use of different digital devices. Modern day technology is rapidly advancing and providing teacher with many different tools to use in the classroom to enhance the students learning experience.
Technology of the past 20 years has become a focal point of teaching and learning. As a teacher, it is my job to facilitate the learning for an individual by creating an environment that not only conducive for learning, but also places the child in a position to discover and learn them for themselves. Technology has given teachers to opportunity to take learning beyond the classroom, and has begun to reshape their role in the learning process.

The World Wide Web had revitalized education by making it easier, and more efficient to teach. Before the creation of the Internet, the most popular and widely used way of teaching was mainly with books and lectures, limiting the speed and efficiency of information to learn, while also limiting the number of units given in a school year. Currently, students around the country, even the world, have the choice to either attend a class face-to-face with a teacher inside a classroom or computer-generated classes in online colleges or Universities. Even though they are similar, the differences between the two are somewhat remarkable. Obviously both types of learning require instructions and some form of assessment and they differ in terms of the learning process and communication.
Initially, I enjoyed the commentary about how today’s technology is making contemporary classrooms richer learning environments. Being a highly involved individual in technology myself, I whole-heartedly believe that in the right hands or under instruction, technology can make the learning process a more fluent process. For example, when I have had issues with a particular topic or subject matter, I will find videos online, diagrams, and many other technological tools to help.
Chapter four talks about upgrading technology. The books talk about educators adding technology into the classroom. Technology is being used to transform classrooms. Even though the use of technology is suggested or required from teachers some fail to reiterate it into their curriculum (Johnson,2012, pg.83). This is due to confusion or some being scared to try something new. Instead some stick to the familiar such as using technology for communicating with parents, recording grades and attendance. The lack of usage in technology sometimes has to do with lack of resources (Johnson,2012, pg.83).
Technology is everywhere, it is involved in almost every part of our culture. It affects how we live, work, play, and most importantly learn. With technology being such a fundamental part of our lives and growing each day, it only makes sense that schools incorporate technology in the classrooms. Even though many people support the use of technology in schools, there are those that have concerns about the effectiveness of technology and whether or not it undermines education to solely prepare students for the workforce. Despite the concerns, technology is being integrated with classroom lessons daily, and proving how beneficial it is for student success.
