Youth centres are a way for children to get out of the house, off the streets, and into a new, safe environment where they can speak to different kinds of people about all sorts of things. They can be given advice on safe sex, what to do when they are being abused, who to talk to at times like this, etc. Youth centres are a place where everybody is welcome and accepted, and even work with local authorities. Therefore, if you are being abused in any way at all, they can refer this to them, or even speak to your parents about it if you wish for that to happen. It is all about having somewhere you can go, somewhere you can feel comfortable with people of your own age. I believe youth centres are a great idea, as they promote children and young people to get out of the house and meet new people, try new things and know that they will be listened to no matter what. In the case of an abused child, it may be a relief for the parent(s) to have their child out of the house, which could lead the parent to become less stress. Also, while their child is out at the youth centre they could take time out to go to parenting classes. It gives parents the peace of mind that their child is somewhere safe and off the streets.
